"Jo Nesbo -- what happened to you?"
oh my gosh, you must be kidding me!! Is this cliche-ridden, flawed, superficial, predictable, dull novel by the same author who produced the eery, deeper, surprising novels of the Harry Hole series?
This book would have been better if the characters had some depth, the story were enticing, and the cliches were dropped.
The performance must have been a joke. Never have I heard a less appropriate reading of a book.
Did Nesbo write this in 2 days while suffering from a hangover? I hope that in future writings Jo Nesbo will stop and think about what he's doing.
Shouldn't the narrator be a man? I mean, to go with the main character whose story is being narrated.
Patti Smith has a flat voice, stumbled on words, had some crazy twang where she says "winda" instead of window.
Should never have been written.
"Please bring back Sean Barrett"
I normally can't get enough of Jo Nesco's books, but the characters never really worked for me. The book felt very short. Also, the narrator was a very poor choice. The broad New York accent, but a story set in Oslo just felt so weird.
The characters just never really connected to me. The story just didn't seem to go anywhere.
i doubt it. Her style of narration is slow, monotone and lacking any character. The broad New York accent just starts to grate after a while.
it needs scenes added!
Please get Sean Barrett back for these Jo Nesbo books.
"What happened to Sean Barrett?"
Not up to his usual standards... Disappointed! Almost glad it was just under 4hrs. Hoping the next Harry Hole will be back on form
Jo Nesbo is a good writer but the choice of narrator for this book is abysmal
"Quite possibly the worst narration ever"
I wouldn't know, I fell asleep half way through
As long as the narrator change
I'm sorry, but this really was a dreadful choice of narrator. Sean Barratt made Harry Hole into a believable thoroughly enthralling character. Patti Smith narrative was poorly paced and monotone. I had little interest in finishing what might have been quite a good listen.
Typically well written Jo Nesbo story, but spoilt for me by the monotone lifeless narration.
"Ideal for the insomnia"
The usual narrator
The voice of the narrator droned on in a monotone that could put me to sleep in about 10 minutes
"Worst narrator ever! "
Terribly dull narrator, she totally killed the story! Won't be buying anything that he narrates again
We usually like Jo Nesbo books, but this one was badly narrated and the story is very weak. Very disappointing.
"Half decent story spoilt by bad narration"
The reader for this book is quite a bad choice. Firstly, it could be a man's voice or a woman's. It's obviously meant to be a man's, so why not pick someone with a rich deep voice that sounds like a killer? Secondly, the reader affects an L.A. Noir drawl that's totally out of keeping with the Oslo setting. It's an ok story but I won't be trying another like it.
"Good story, wrong narrator"
Nope. Not unless the main character was meant to be an American female, rather than a Norwegian male. Totally miscast in the role of narrating a first person story about a male character. I've been loving the Harry Hole books but this one is not working.
Haven't got to the end yet and may not be able to as the narration is really ruining it for me.
Any male performer who can pronounce Krone or Chaise Longue correctly.
