Mark Dawson (author of the best-selling John Milton series) continues the action-packed quest for revenge begun by Beatrix Rose in In Cold Blood.
Ten years ago, Beatrix Rose headed an off-the-books hit squad that did the dirty work of the British Government. When she discovered that the commander of the squad was corrupt, he sent five of his assassins to rub her out.
But they failed. Bad mistake.
There were six names on Beatrix's Death List, and now there are four. She's going to account for the others, one by one, even if it kills her.
Beatrix has returned from Somalia with a fresh target in her sights. Bryan Duffy is in Iraq, surrounded by mercenaries, with no easy way to get to him and no easy way to get out.
Will Duffy prove to be a challenge too far?
Fans of In Cold Blood will know all about the unlimited action, but until you've listened to Blood Moon Rising, you'll only know one third of the story!

"Wonderful espionage thriller in a wonderful series"
Those who like espionage thrillers should listen to Mark Dawson's novels. My favorite Dawson series is Beatrix Rose. In Blood moon rising ex-British espionage agent is getting some revenge as she dies of terminal cancer. She is also teaching her teen daughter Isabella how to protect herself after she (Beatrix) dies. Action is constant and suspense is extreme in the four novels in this series. Mark Deakins' narration is pitch perfect.
"Awesome audio book ."
Yes the audio version makes you feel like you were right with Beatrix.
How she helped the brother and sister get to a safe place/
He makes you feel like your right there.
Yes it made me cry when she hugged the brother and sister goodbye before they went to their relatives.
This is the first book I have listened to and will now be looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Also this book stands alone so you can read the series out of order.
"Another solid entry into my read category."
This one left me looking for the next book. Excited to read on. thank you.
The continuing saga of Beatrix Rose is great. The pace is fast as more and more of Beatrix personality is revealed as she continues with her agenda. The time just flies listening to it. Looking forward to her next adventure.
Recommend a read/listen of "In Cold Blood" first and get a more thorough insight into the series. The background is in this book, so not necessary, but I'm glad I read/listened to In Cold Blood first
I thought Beatrix was in a tight spot with no feasible escape without some farfetched action by which she overcomes insurmountable odds and, once again, the author comes up with a highly plausible scenario to even the chance for escape.
I liked Mark performing as the villain, Number 10, when I listened to In Cold Blood. This time as one of the good guys, the new Control, Pope, was my favorite.
Iraq - all about oil - a thrilling aside
I listened to the first of the series; bought the series and read/listened to the second now I will read/listen to the third. Yes, I'm hooked on Beatrix Rose.
"Another great ride in the Beatrix Rose series!"
After listening to the first book in this series, I was hooked! I have a long commute and listen to audiobooks frequently. Listening to this book, I found myself at work in no time, realizing I had been totally immersed in the story. I don't often looh forward to my commute, but I did during this book, wondering what was going to happen to Beatrix as she worked her "list".
The characters are well developed, believable, and likeable (I really have to have someone to root for in a story). There is a unique aspect to this series as you begin to see the relationship between Rose and her daughter. I feel like there is something special in store for the daughter, I just don't know what yet. The narration is well done as well. Overall a great quality audiobook.
If you haven't read the John Milton series yet, you can stil enjoy this series - it stands on its own. Although - you may want to read the John Milton series first because there are some references to that series in the Beatrix Rose stories.
I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series...
"Loved Blood Moon Rising"
This is the second Audible book I've listen to ofMark Dawson's. As with the first book I've given it five stars. A fabulous listening story. I listen to audio books on my daily walks and Mark Dawson's books make my walk go past so quickly that I don't even notice that I've walked for over 2 hours. Just wish they were a bit longer. But fantastic all the same. Highly recommended.
"Suspenseful story but audiobook not my cup of tea"
My favorite thing about Blood Moon Rising is the main character. First, the assassin is a butt kicking female! It's a nice change of pace to read about a female assassin. Second, she's physically up to the task (even with cancer ravaging her body.) She's the best damn knife thrower! I don't know about you but knives make me cringe a bit! Third, mentally she's able to focus on the task at hand like a pro. She's also able to adapt on the fly. That makes her deadly. Lastly, she is a great Mother. Just like all Moms out there, she's constantly second guessing herself regarding how she's raising her daughter. But she's despite the unique situation they're in, she's making the best of everything and leaving a great legacy in her daughter before she her time on earth is over.
Yes! It's a constant back and forth between what still needs to be done vs. how much time Rose has left. Also, there's the logistics of the "battles" themselves. As one would expect in planning these attacks, where there are a thousand factors to be considered and how easily something may go awry, that requires Rose to be on the ball of her feet and in return the reader sitting on the edge of the seat.
Captivating, suspenseful, and resonating.
Beatrix Rose is the female Jason Bourne!
"Yet Another Excellent Yarn from Mark Dawson!"
Beatrix Rose is one of the most interesting, complicated characters I have encountered in reading many thriller novels. In this second of three stories in the series created by Mark Dawson, the moral dilemma and action in the plot are very well balanced. Mark Deakins is an excellent narrator - easy to listen to and engage with, as he tells us the story. Dawson's Beatrix Rose and John Milton stories just keep getting better and better. It's great for his readers that he partners with as capable a narrator as Deakins.
"Interesting story and smart, relatable female lead"
Disclosure: I received this audiobook from the author in return for a candid review.
Beatrix Rose is a former covert British agent on a mission. And although it's a personal mission, she pursues it with single-minded professionalism. I normally tend to avoid spy novels with female leads because they're all too often the spy version of a "Bond girl" but Beatrix Rose is different. She's smart and level-headed, the kind of person who lives down the block or whose child goes to school with yours. There is an element to her circumstance that creates additional urgency for her to complete her mission, and it ratchets up the story's suspense level. This is an interesting, compelling story and Mark Deakins' narration is pitch perfect -- not too dramatic nor too flat. He really brought the story to life for me.
When the sequel to Blood Moon Rising is released, I'll be picking up a copy to catch up on Beatrix's next adventure. Highly recommend Blood Moon Rising to spy thriller and suspense fans.
blood moon rising was a excellent novel full of pace.. the narration was first class
"A bit short"
These Beatrix Rose books are pretty good popular thrillers, but very short compared to other books. She has a hit list of 6 and the writer has split each "hit" into a separate book. They should really be in one log book.
"Gripping, but a bit bloodthirsty"
I haven't read the print edition of this book, but having read several other books by Mr Dawson, and as this is an unabridged version, that there is very little to choose between them. Having an audio book is an unusual treat for me as I normally read the print/kindle versions of books.
In some ways the heroine (Beatrix Rose) is rather like a female Jack Reacher in the Lee Child books. She is also a very highly trained agent/soldier and the books are similarly bloodthirsty.
The performance overall was rather mono-tonal, and the excitement of certain key passages wasn't really portrayed in his performance
They upset this loving mother, now they must pay, four down, two to go by the end.
an excellent story, as usual from Mark Dawson, rather more bloodthirsty than his John Milton stories. Slightly let down by a narration that was a little flat in my opinion.
The fast paced story and accuracy of the people and places.
The rescue of the boy from prison in Iraq.
Yes. The previous novel in this series. Well read again..
yes but at 5 hours + I listened in chunks of about an hour.
I thought that the previous Beatrix Rose outing was good but this is better. A fast moving plot with action from the beginning. It is a great story with a knowledge of places and culture that I would previously not been interested in. It had heart stopping excitement where you thought that the heroine would not complete her task.. I really enjoyed this story and hope to buy more from this author.
"two roses for Beatrix"
Beatrix Rose continues her vendetta against those the six who , years previously, killed her husband and stole her daughter. Finally reunited with he and with time rapidly running out, BeTrix needs to keep her safe and that can only be achieved if her betrayers are dead.
Although a story of an assassin on the hunt, it is also tender and thoughtful, beautifully crafted by the talented Mark Dawson. The narration I matches the novel's pace well and the vocalisation of the dialogue is excellent helping to bring the characters vividly to life.
This is the second of Mark Dawson's excellent Beatrix Rose trilogy, fast, thrilling and often unexpected. Best to read the first volume before this one but not essential, I can recommend it without reservation -buy it, listen and enjoy.
