Suffering from bald patches thanks to a hair conditioner spiked with depilatory cream - supplied by the murderess in her last investigation - Agatha escapes to the coastal resort of Wyckhadden to allow her crowning glory to recover in privacy. A local witch provides her with hair tonic, and Agatha's lost locks begin to grow - but then the witch is found bludgeoned to death.
The elderly residents at Agatha's faded hotel seem innocuous enough, if a little odd. But, as she enquires into the murder, she turns up an alarming number of secrets....

They do run along a sort of reliable format...I rather like that. I like the predictability of her stories. Penelope Keith knows when to raise Agatha's voice perfectly, much as I would do in my head were l reading it.
Agatha!! There is no-one quite like her and a little bit of her in most of us. She is opinionated, self-serving, but also insecure and above all very, very funny :)
Agatha!! Has to be, but you must imagine the accent is being affected rather than one she grew up with.
I was rather upset that Agatha managed to ruin her chance of marrying a man who seemed to adore her :(
I love being in Agatha-Raisin land and very much hope that MC Beaton can keep up with me ;)
I really enjoy the Agatha Raisin books and as usual Penelope Keith narrates this beautifully. However I found this story so gloomy and depressing that I am a little cautious about picking another one and finding it the same. please M C Beaton, Agatha Raisen is a character that makes me laugh out loud if I wanted to be depressed I would read Thomas Hardy. Hopefully the next book will be bit more cheery.
"As always, good fun"
Yes, mostly because I have already forgotten the story, and love Penelope Keith's acting.
Eeerm, can't remember
She is always reliable good - this was as good as her other performances.
No, the story is very lightweight, untaxing, relaxing, and good fun, but not really gripping.
A jolly good romp!
"New man for Agatha"
Since the Agatha Raisin series is not available in German, I started reading them in English. Penepole Keith IS Agatha. I downloaded a lot of the audiobooks and after finishing one, I cant wait to start the next one.
I've been waiting how the Agatha / James / Charles triangle is working out - now there's this new guy!
"Love potion and hair tonic"
A bleak seaside setting for Agatha as she recovers from being attacked with hair remover. There is scrabble involved and a police inspector and of course the odd murder...Agatha is perhaps not the most politically correct of characters she smokes and loves her fur coat she has human failings look not here for the poised unflappable cool intellectual detective whose mind is impenetrable , she has her faults but she gets there in the end!
"Fantastic narration from Penelope Keith!"
Thoroughly enjoyed the book & I'm working through the series. So glad that Penelope Keith is narrating most of them, she really brings them to life (especially when compared against the other narrator used in the series, sorry)!
"She is a one..."
I enjoy the Agatha Raisin books. A lighthearted romp through implausible plot lines, populated by a regular cast of characters who are easily identifiable throughout the series and who display some all too human failings (some highly amusing and some irritating - as in life). All in all, pleasant escapism. I just prefer some storylines to others, hence the rating.
