In the delightful Cotswold village of Carsely, the air is heady with romance. Agatha Raisin is convinced that the new vet has taken a shine to her. But before she can get anywhere, handsome Dr Paul Bladen is accidentally killed while attending to Lord Pendlebury's horse. So was it really an accident? All the evidence points that way, but the circumstances are decidedly suspicious.

These books are usually narrated by Penelope Keith, so it was with a bit of trepidation I bought this one narrated by Diana Bishop, whose work I am unfamiliar with.
However, there is no need for concern. Diana is wonderful. Very similar voice to Penelope's. The beauty of these stories for me lies in the frankness with which the character of Agatha Raisin is laid bare for us.
As ever this is typical Agatha up to her usual escapades resulting in a humorous Miss Marple type adventure. However, for those listeners used to Penelope Keith's voice on this series be warned that this is a different narrator who at times sounds dreary and rarely gives characters a distinctive voice (unlike Ms Keith). This not only takes a lot of the normal fun out of the book but also made it difficult to follow; i.e. who was talking to whom.
"Missing Penelope Keith"
An excellent book, M.C. Beaton, as always, weaves a web of evil around the Cotswold villages
However, being used to PK narrating the Agatha Raisin books, I found this to be missing that special element
"Enjoyable easy listen"
I enjoyed listening to this. The narrator was good... not annoying like some. The story line was light but enjoyable. Kept me entertained. Light dectective stuff so doesn't bog down your mind. Relaxing fun.
"need to redo with penelope Keith"
the reader was a bit bland. hard to distinguish who was who for the voices.
"Another great Agatha Raisin story"
A great story both touching and funny beautifully narrated by Diana Bishop. All the characters are so recognisable.
james lacey should be nicer to Agatha. he just thinks everyone wants to get with him
It has been a delight to listen to this book. Such a change... I felt transported back to a more gentle time...with gentle murders!!!! Love books that are set in a village, I shall now download the next one! 😊
Love Agatha , she brings colour and humour to this great story. This is a must read as is the rest of the series.
