About this listen

On the eve of his marriage to the beautiful Mercedes, having that very day been made captain of his ship, the young sailor Edmond Dantès is arrested on a charge of treason, trumped up by jealous rivals. Incarcerated for many lonely years in the isolated and terrifying Chateau d'If near Marseille, he meticulously plans his brilliant escape and extraordinary revenge.

Of all the "masked avengers" and "caped crusaders" in literature, The Count of Monte Cristo is at once the most daring and the most vulnerable. Alexandre Dumas (père), master storyteller, takes us on a journey of adventure, romance, intrigue, and ultimately, redemption.

Narrator always licking his lips & smacking his tongue dampens the experience. A fantastic classic.

I thought I would struggle to finish it being such a long book but found I was disappointed that it was ending. Thoughly enjoyed listening to it all the way through.

Loved Every Minute !!

This is by far one of the narrations I’ve ever listened to. Props to Bill Homewood!

Homewood’s narration is absolutely superb.

Don’t let the length put you off. Dumas is undoubtedly one of the truly great writers. This book is equivalent to the many trilogies you see from many modern authors and centres around the theme of crime, punishment and retribution. A fantastic story. There are arguably elements of Stephen King and the supernatural in here well before the ventre was ever imagined. Normally I have a low tolerance for sci fi but this only just creeps into that area at the end. The narrator much adds to the success of this book being capable of representing man, woman and characters from both the hierarchy and peasantry. A wonderful listen. Never a dull moment. Much recommended.

A truly epic novel from a classic author

I listened to the audio while reading the unabridged book. This is my first classic book and it did not disappoint this story is one of full slow burn revenge. Sometimes the characters are hard to distinguish who is talking but no fault on the narrator as there are many characters to voice so he did an amazing job. Bill is a great narrator and kept this story so up beat and fast paced. I did have to speed it up to 1.1x as it was too slow for my ears and I was reading the book while listening. I would say this narrator is on par with Stephen Fry in ease of listening. Not a dull moment. Worth it.

The BEST
