When sun flares hit the Earth, intense heat, toxic radiation and flooding followed, wiping out much of the human race. Those who survived live in basic communities in the mountains, hunting for food.
For Mark and his friends, surviving is difficult, and then an enemy arrives, infecting people with a highly contagious virus. Thousands die, and the virus is spreading. Worse, it's mutating, and people are going crazy. It's up to Mark and his friends to find the enemy - and a cure - before the Flare infects them all.

If you have read the first 3 published books before reading this one, it will be a let down sorry. This book simply didn't have the same appeal as the previous ones. The story was very slow to get started, the characters didn't draw you in and capture your attention. The author jumps around back and forward in the time line. I could accept it, IF this was the authors very first book. But after the other 3 were written very well ... This is a serious let down.
The Maze Runner series is very addictive, and this story made me cry out injustice! It is a fantastic roller coaster, though I would probably recommend reading this after the other books despite it being a prequel.
I love the rest in this series, but struggled to get through this one. Narration was good as always, the scenarios were a little lackluster.
Well read, loved the differences in characters. Kept us entertained on a long car journey!
"If you like post apocalyptic adventures.. Get this"
This was a great book to listen too on those long journeys back home. It was a really interesting take on how to survive only months after a global devastation. The relationships between the characters were very strong and you instantly felt a rapport with them, while contemplating what you would do in a similar situation.. Asking the big questions. This book was a great addition to the Maze Runner series and should be read/listened to by all.
Wow! Yet another great book by Dashner, I wish this story would carry on! also ereally liked the Narrater.
It was a waste of time and credit. I regret not having taken the advice of some reviewers on Audible.com: skip it, you'll miss nothing. It brings almost nothing new and it is quite slow.
"Now I understand"
I have never read the print version and I most probably won't because I don't usually read a book after listening to it.
Finding out how the kill order was issued
He brought the characters to life. After listening to him throughout the Maze Runner series I felt that he had a good grasp of the story line and characters.
Yes but I couldn't so I listened whenever I could.
I listened to this book after listening to the series, I didn't feel that I'd lost anything doing it in this order. Whether you listen to this book before or after the Maze Runner series I strongly recommend that you do listen /read this book.
"Good though depressing!"
Really well written and excellently read though somehow more depressing than the main trilogy. Still...worth a listen!
"Enjoyed the book - wasn't sure about narrator"
It was nice to have to book read as the films are so different and miss too much out
Love all characters
It's nice for me as I have epilepsy and if I'm recovering from seizures I can't read as vision impaired. That's why I like audible but wasn't sure about narrator and never bonded with his voice
Too long but did long sittings
I read and really enjoyed the Maze Runner trilogy, saw this and thought it would be another weak precall just milking a franchise. I actually decided not to read it but forgot to remove it from my wish list. I by mistake downloaded it when buying a few other titles. As a number of titles where downloading at the same time, this just happened to be the only one ready to listen when I got on the bus. I'm glad, it is awesome!! Better than the Mase Runner trilogy but definately not a stand alone book. Having read the trilogy makes this book all the better. It is more emotive than I expected.
gone through the whole set of the maze runner on Audible, great listening and Mark Deakins make listening easy and is a credit to the maze runner books
I really enjoyed the whole Maze Runner series. The first book was a little slow to get going but once in, I was hooked.
I bought this book as a paperback and thought i would try an audiobook of it. I was not dissapointed as the reader made the story sound really full of action. THIS IS A MUST READ DOR ANYONE WHO LIKES A GOOD BIT OF ADVENTURE
