What the Critics Say

“Jonathan Auxier’s strange and inventive debut, Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, is a beautiful adventure told in a dashing and assured voice. It’s Little Nemo in Slumberland meets Oliver Twist. I enjoyed it tremendously.” (Audrey Niffenegger, author of the best seller The Time Traveler’s Wife)

    "An Entertaining Tale!"

Peter Nimble and his Fantastic Eyes is a charming, sometimes appropriately frightening and even gruesome children's tale. The author is willing to take the book to some of the dark places adults don't always want to believe great children's fiction should go and in doing so, with both wit and originality, he creates genuine drama. The book certainly owes a debt to similar tales of the fantastic that have come before it yet from it's premise to it's conclusion, it has a personality all it's own. It's as clever and resourceful as Peter Nimble himself.

Michael Page's reading is absolutely superb.

"Enjoyable listen but not for the youngest kids"

I did enjoy this bookn and for much of it, I was set to recommend it for the whole family. While it is written for the middle grade reader, but I found the last 1/4 a bit too violent (though who knows what is considered violent these days) and several characters too menacing. Like so many books of its genre, almost all adults are bad and a threat to children. The monsters and bad guys are very creepy.

Peter Nimble is a charming character, though things do come a bit too easily, considering he has no eyes. While enhanced senses can do many things, he does seem to move around in each scene with little regard to the setting.

One of the best readings by Michael Page I have heard. I find some of his books sound too much alike but here he is spot on with the characters.

What did you love best about Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes?

I loved the magical parts of the story, where I didn't really know what magic was taking place until more of the story unfolded..which is the best, because it takes a great writer to do this effectively

What other book might you compare Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes to and why?

The Whatnot or The Peculiar, Both fantastic books that everyone, at every age should own & read over & over

Which character – as performed by Michael Page – was your favorite?

He did an outstanding performance and the range of voices for all characters combined to make a better story. Of course Peter had a courageous voice, and the ravens were stoic, the frog was subtle, and the villain was unlikable.

    "Adventure! Whimsy! And CARNAGE...!!!"

What a Five-Star book! Brilliantly performed by Michael Page who breathes life into every single word, every battle, every little picked lock, "Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes" is a rollicking story of adventures galore and courage and whimsy aplenty.
Filled with incredibly lovable characters (C'mon! Who is better than Sir Tode?), twists and turns, heroes and madmen, this book is sure to delight all ages. Sometimes you do indeed dip your toe into a passing bloodbath, but that's just because the stakes are so high for Peter and his companions. There are Ravens and sparrows, sea monsters and loyal dogfish, maniacal apes and adults who don't know what children are.
This is an absolute delight of a listen, hours that are spent in a glory of laughter and adventures and mishaps and petty thievery and hags who cast spells. Credit-worthy, and time-worthy indeed!

    "Quirky, Fun & FANTASTIC"

Peter Nimble is not your ordinary hero, and his story is far from ordinary as well. Jonathan Auxier brings a mix of beautiful and thoughtful storytelling and Brothers Grimm darkness to this tale of a blind thief who adventures beyond the edge of the map into the unknown. My daughter and I were spellbound through the entire Audible production. After listening we immediately dove into the sequel, Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard... Which we loved even more!
