Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts unable to accept the injustices any longer, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum; a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger.

"An author who has worked hard not to be identified too closely with any particular genre, she has built a complex and challenging novel around an alternative version of apartheid." (The Scotsman)

"Compelling teen reading"
This was my daughter`s favorite book when she was 13. I enjoyed listening to it - the actors are talented and the story moves quickly, if occasionally predictably. Some of the themes are more suited for older teens, but my kids were fine with them. I recommend this for kids 12-15.
This was a very extent rich book it had a few plot lines that all link at the end it starts slow stick with it IS GETS GREAT
This was a good book that was excellently transposed to an audio book by using 2 readers. Highly recommended for teenagers and adults alike.
Never before has a book made such a powerful impression on me. This book is literally without fault and should be made compulsary reading for absolutely everyone. The ending is so moving that I cried out load and no book has ever done that to me before. Seriously it is that good, I defy anyone not to be moved by this awesome masterpiece.
"Nice to have 2 people read..."
just as the story is retold by two characters it was great to have to people read it...
Wow. Wow. Wow. Just so very excellent. Brilliant. Brought a tear to me at the end and reminded me of when I first read it in secondary school.
One of the best books I have read but with the saddest ending definitely a huge emotional rollercoaster
Truly gripping! A highly thought provoking and emotional story. The two narrators make the audiobook even better!
"Didn't want it to end!"
I did not read the print version however I am surprised at how much I enjoyed the audio version. It was easy to listen to and still had me gripped at each word and wanting to hear more. The only thing I didn't like was that with the voices you can't imagine the characters voices as much, but that's just a small fault for a reader!
They had different takes on each character and it was easy to tell when a different character was speaking. I loved that they did have a male and female for both parts as well, it helped knowing whose perspective it was.
Yes! If I had time I would have easily! I hated pausing it because I constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next.
The reason I thought to try audible was due to me wanting to sunbathe but not wanting to wear my sunglasses to read, this meant I could lay with my eyes closed and earphones in and still listen to the book! It's a great idea and I loved it.
