"compelling story about passion and being true"
The characters are intriguing, you start to love or detest them and the story is very compelling.
When Maia is being taken into the jungle by her jungle friend, they feel very complete.
She did read with good expression.
At the end, Maia's governess gets permission to take her back to the Amazon , so they can rejoin their friends and follow their passion.
The development of the characters is very well done.

"Marvellous journey into South America"
We have not read the printed version
When the two boys became jealous over the heroine.
The twin sisters were truly awful, and their voices conveyed this magnificently.
When the boy's father had died, and he sent the money back to the newspaper for his dad's article.
The girl was in a truly hideous situation, but bore it with aplomb.
"Great story for kids - let's go to the jungle!"
It took me 2 chapters to really get into this book but once the characters got to Brazil I felt like I cared immensely what happened to all of them. There are plenty of points where there is good deal of mystery and what happens next??? Beautifully written and ideal for children of 10 +
