What does it take to be a successful property investor? How can you start with nothing but a very ordinary level of savings and amass a portfolio that means you'll never need to work for anyone else again?
Beyond the Bricks is a window into the lives of nine UK-based investors who've done exactly that. Through long-form interviews with them, we learn exactly how they did it, what their lives are like now, and what they recommend to anyone just starting out.
Of course, "success" is a relative term. During the book you'll meet people ranging from Mark, who amassed a portfolio worth millions, to Serena, whose few houses saved her family from financial ruin. And along the way you'll meet Kim, who was unstoppable prior to the credit crunch, nearly lost everything, and found an innovative way to stay afloat.
The day-to-day life of a property investor isn't necessarily what you'd expect either. Fast cars and exotic holidays are represented...but so, too, are sprinting in pursuit of rent checks, puttering around in a dressing gown all day, and helping a tenant with cancer by driving her to hospital appointments.
This book is less of a "how to" than a "how you could". It won't give you one formula for success but many practical ideas and inspiring examples that you can use to craft your own property-investing story.
With all jargon clearly explained, this book will be an educational and entertaining listen for those who are yet to get started as well as a rich source of new ideas for more-experienced investors.

"A wholesome read/listen that gave me some much needed time for reflection"
I was engrossed in this book start to finish. It gave me a lot to think about, in the both the core aspects of my property portfolio and those bits that require fine tuning.
I would recommend this book to beginners that require a mindset shift and to build their 'property IQ'. Or the more experienced investors looking for reflection time and the opportunity to glean some golden nuggets.
Some may see 4hrs of audio as a lot but for me it was only a taster. I could have done 10 times that with content like this.
"Enjoyed the narration and content is brilliant"
I will Recommend this for everyone starting or already started their property journey, it's worth it.
Really good personal life experiences by a differing group of real people with their feet on the ground
This was a pretty good book, much better than his later book "Property Investment for Beginners (Unabridged)". This book directed real property mangers and gave examples of how HMO or benefits based models can work. The thing that will really help you from this book is how he high lights how specific entrepreneurs fixed the collection of rent from benefit collectors whom are high risk.
In short, the reason I like this book was that it pushed the idea that there are different models for different people and entethesises that problems other people have can be automated and solved.
Yes and No.
I recommend this for other people whom have already started building thier property portfolio and looking to expand. The book makes you think about the road bloods you faced in different ways.
If your an absolute beginner, "Property Investment for Beginners (Unabridged)" is much more suited for you
Explanation of how the law changed where by the money is placed into the account of the benefits holder directly. the Brothers setup a special account with the credit unions to solve the old problem where benefit collectors used it on other things.
no, some of the examples are a bit depressing.
"Some useful nuggets..."
I enjoyed the audio and would recommend for a newbie. However my only reservation is how these people made their money may not be so relevant to today's market. this was when getting a mortgage was easy. However I picked up some useful nuggets which I will apply to my property journey. thanks
"Mentoring through Mortar!"
A wonderfully entertaining and insightful book about people who have made money through property. Very, very good. Loved it and there was so much in everyone's stories that it was like a biography with heaps of learning attached.
I liked the narration by the author and will be finding and listening to more of his books.

This book is such an inspirational listening for a wannabe property investor like myself. One of the best books on Property investment out there...Rob Dix takes us through several different strategies by presenting, on some level of detail, the experiences of established investors and their journey through the highs and lows as property investors. Educational and inspirational for the newbies as well as the more experienced. Totally recommend it.
I prefer to listen to books where the author is narrating. In this case Rob Dix talks about investors he's met and their insights into the business. Some very interesting stories and it appears there are many ways of becoming finically free!
Very good. Easy to follow. A must read if you're thinking of investing in property. Thank you Rob
