Publisher's Summary

This is the FoxTales edition of the book previously published by Samhain Publishing.

Other than the cover art and description, the book is the same.

Hundreds of years ago, on a wild sea coast, two bold-hearted men met in combat and love...This is the story of Caius, a Christian monk struggling to reconcile his sensual nature with his newfound faith, and of Fenrir, a ferocious Viking raider abandoned by his comrades and left for dead. When Caius takes pity on the wounded man, his brethren are horrified: what kind of wolf has Cai brought into the fold?

But only when Cai and Fen join forces can the monastery of Fara be saved from the raiders from the east. And Fara holds a secret worth guarding, a legendary amulet with the power to bind even the might of the Vikings. Fen, his heart divided between old loyalties and a new love, must make a decision which could shatter his own heart and Cai's into the bargain.

Will there ever be peace and a future for these brothers of the wild North Sea?

A wild and romantic saga!

Life around 690 AD is tough for the enlightened monks of Fara, a small Northumbrian peninsular along the cold North Sea. Viking sea raiders regularly pillage the monastery from the north, while the Roman Catholic Church makes demands from the south. Brother Caius, son of a local chieftain, has rejected his father’s violent ways and tried embracing the peaceful life of a man of medicine. However, as successive Viking raids and interference from the Church take their toll, Caius trains the monks in self-defence. When he finds Fenrir, a critically wounded Viking, and nurses him back to health, both men find what they’ve been missing. As usual, Harper Fox’s prose is beautiful and evocative and her romantic story is epic and thrilling. I’m not usually a fan of stories with religious themes and there’s a lot of religion in this, but Harper works hard to contrast love of knowledge and generous acceptance against narrow-minded, mealy-mouthed faith. There’s some confused messaging where Harper embraces both science and magical realism, but it’s easily forgiven in the face such great characters and their deep love and heroic deeds. UK voice actor Hamish Long is ALWAYS brilliant and he is perfection here (the audio is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!

Feel good book

I really enjoyed this audio, I particularly liked the hint of magic. The style was very enjoyable and the plot not predictable. I will certainly listen to it again.

Saga, Epic and Rewarding

An amazingly rendered tale of history and passion. Long, but not never long enough.

Not her best.

After listening to two other good books from Harper Fox I did expect this one to be as good. I was disappointed and I didn't finish after getting over half way. I found the story too much like a formulae "Mills and Boon".
