Story
'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

Story
Paul Kelly is a uniquely gifted storyteller, and here, using his lyrics as starting points, he reads stories of his life and his songs, including "Before Too Long", "To Her Door", "Leaps And Bounds", "Don't Start Me Talking", "Dumb Things", "From Little Things Big Things Grow" and "How to Make Gravy". Mirroring the structure of his legendary A to Z shows - where he performs around a hundred of his songs alphabetically over four nights - Kelly describes the highs and lows of performing, the art of songwriting, being on the road with the band, tales of his childhood, family, friends and fellow musicians.

Wonderful outlook on life, well told
I've read Sir Michael's previous autobiographies and really enjoyed them; particularly in Audible form as there was the added delight of him narrating them himself. However, Blowing the Bloody Doors Off is now my favourite. A mix of anecdote and practical tips on how to succeed in your career, no matter what that may be, this book is not just for actors but for anyone who aspires to do the best they can in their chosen profession. I love Michael Caine and most of the movies he’s appeared in (even the few that were dross were uplifted because he was in them); and having previously read his inspirational life story I was looking forward to this different perspective on his career. I am not an actor, aspiring or otherwise, however I found that most of the advice he gave was transferable to almost anyone’s life and career choices. I loved his self-deprecating humour and ability to make the best of even the worst situations, and to fill me with positive vibes and hopes for my own career – even though I’m reaching what most would consider a ‘transition to retirement’. In times such as these when the whole world seems to have gone crazy, and there isn’t much hope out there, I can honestly say this book was a Godsend. Well done Sir Michael, I hope you realise that you are much loved throughout the world, and I wish you many more years of happiness and fulfillment with your wonderful family.

Bloody marvellous
I’ve been lucky to listen to Michael Caine, what he has said has made me think about what to do next,I’m 65 years old and looking to give it a bloody good shot again, but like he said if you don’t make it, just think about the fun you have alone the way.
Thank you for the good advice.
God bless

Amazing Guy
He makes it all sound simple. just hard work and luck. He could add 'talent'. A great story. I'd read his first bio but not the second cos I thought he'd have nothing of substance to add. This time around he has delivered an entertaining read once again. Perhaps, I should backtrack read the second bio. Spoiler alert - he does NOT like Norman Wisdom.
