Story
Where do comedians come from? Why is it that one person is a funny bloke down the pub while another actually makes a living by standing up in front of an audience telling jokes? And where does all that material come from? Well, young Lee McKillop used to wonder that too. Growing up in his parents’ pub, small and wiry in a world of bigger and chunkier specimens, Lee quickly learned that cracking jokes was a way to get attention.

As far back as he can remember James Corden has only ever wanted to be in one place: in front of you, doing something to make you laugh, cry, shout, or giggle uncontrollably. At the age of 4, he grandstanded throughout his baby sister’s christening, standing on a chair in front of the whole congregation, pulling faces and cracking everyone up. Despite himself, the vicar was impressed. And from then on he couldn’t get enough of the spotlight, even when it always seemed to avoid him. Throughout his teens, he and his Dad trudged up and down towards London....

Story
For a man who has been firmly in the public eye for the past decade or more, Matt Preston has been very, very quiet about his past and private life. There are reasons for this. Now, in Big Mouth, Matt opens up about his early years for the first time—the good and the bad, the tragic and the ecstatic. Like the man himself, it's a story that's joyous, funny and larger than life. It's also, perhaps unexpectedly, filled with pathos and emotional depth, set to a pulsating 1980s soundtrack.

Story
David Mitchell’s 2014 best seller Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse must really have made people think - because everything’s got worse. We’ve gone from UKIP surge to Brexit shambles, from horsemeat in lasagne to Donald Trump in the White House, from Woolworths going under to all the other shops going under. It’s probably socially irresponsible even to try to cheer up.

Publisher's Summary
Hello there. Welcome to my autobiography.
Throughout this audiobook I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly with Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice in Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars. The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have listened to, because it comes in the form of an A-Z. For instance, B is for Baldy! Which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun). G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real-life gay), and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing.
Anyway, I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.
This Audible Exclusive features a song, performed by Matt Lucas, with full musical backing.

Critic Reviews
"Matt is not only hilarious and kind, he's probably the most generous person I know. All of which is wonderfully evident in this book." (Rebel Wilson)
"To be truly unique in this world is almost impossible to achieve; this book is about someone who achieved it. Raw, honest, funny and moving." (James Corden)

Delightful!
I feel like I just finished a long, interesting chat with a friend. Matt Lucas is not only a brilliant performer but a man who has had his share of tough challenges in life which he's risen above admirably. As an Australian too, I was not aware of the extent of his work having only seen him in Little Britain and Come Fly With Me so I've lots of other things to look up now.
Congratulations, "Dr Matt" on a fascinating memoir I thoroughly recommend.

A non-chronological memoir
However many or few terrible moments he’s lived through, Matt Lucas’ autobiography is a fairly joyous one. However unsure of himself he may be in life, it’s his genuine enthusiasm and brio at doing what he loves that shines through most in this book. Much like his work on screen, this was greatly entertaining to me.

Laughed and cried my way through this cracking book. My respect for this crazy, talented, broken and ballsy man grew as the chapters whipped by. Not an overshare Dr Lucas - just an insight into the real man behind the talent captured on our TV sets. And the little surprise in the middle of the book had me on the floor...
