Publisher's Summary

The amazing life story of Britain's world conquering triathlete, Chrissie Wellington. Chrissie Wellington is the world's No 1 female Ironman triathlete, the current quadruple World Champion and World Record holder. In 2009 she was voted 'Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year' and in 2010 was awarded the MBE. She is the undefeated champion of Triathlon, having won nine Ironman titles from nine races. Her World Record setting race time of 8:19:13 at Quelle Roth Germany in 2010 slashed over 14 minutes from the previous record and where she was only beaten by six men. Chrissie has displayed unprecedented levels of stamina, strength and competitiveness in becoming Ironman World Champion in only her second event at Ironman level. Her victory in Kona, Hawaii in 2007 finishing in 9:08:45 - five minutes ahead of her nearest rival - was described as the 'biggest upset in Ironman history' and 'a remarkable feat, deemed to be near impossible task for any athlete racing as a rookie at their first Ironman World Championships'. She defended her World title in Hawaii in 2008 and again in 2009 and won back her title in 2011 after having to withdraw from the 2010 race due to illness.

This is the remarkable story of how a Norfolk girl - a 'sporty kid, swimming, playing hockey, running, but never excelling and always more interested in the social side of the sports scene' - became a world champion. Chrissie Wellington is the world-record holder for ironman-distance triathlon, and she remains undefeated over the Ironman distance.

What the Critics Say

"What emerges from this book is the portrait of a thoroughly nice woman. Her exceptional qualities have led her to achievements that her readers can scarcely imagine. But she still remains touchingly connected to that ordinary girl from Norfolk. It s a winning combination.” Jane Shilling, (The Daily Mail)

“What amazes me about Chrissie Wellington is not that she wins, but by how much [...] Like Usain Bolt, Wellington has burst on to the scene and destroyed the opposition. Those within athletics said that Bolt was coming but Wellington came from nowhere and wins by a relatively greater margin.” James Cracknell

"An excellent insight to triathlon and Chrissy Wellington."

Was a great book to listen to. Very easy to listen to and very inspiring. Great insight to the ultimate professional and how tough not only physical but how mentally strong Chrissy.
Great role model for females. Shows them that they can travel, have a good education beat the boys in their chosen sport and do whatever they put their mind to.
Great role model for females in all aspects of life.

    "What an amazing person"

People like this don't come along every day! They are given to us as special gifts, to help us realise just how much we could possibly achieve in a lifetime. Thank you Chrissy Wellington for sharing your beautiful story.
I am a mum of two and soon to be three, and just before I found out I was pregnant with my third I had started running for the first time ever. I realise now I have to slow down a bit for a while and ride out another season of my life. But your story has inspired me to seek a more enriching life, where I throw away the thoughts of my limiting mind. So thank you, for putting your story into this book, and inspiring people like me.

    "Persistence = Success"

As a specialist in peak performance mindset, I applaud Chrissie Wellington for outlining what it takes to be successful and the massive dedication to push the limit of mind and body. The last 10 mins is something every athlete needs to hear.

    "Good But Not Great"

Good performance. A bit of an affected tone at times.

Story had interesting bits but spent too long on non-triathlon stuff and was repetitive. Ms. Wellington came across as self-absorbed.

    Nevertheless, an impressive athlete.

"Absolutely amazing and inspiring without false humility!"

I felt as if I was part of her journey and got an insight into the kind of dedication it takes to be the best. A quest not to be better than others but to triumph over the nay sayer within one self. We all have set backs in life. No one in life is immune. This is a story of grit overcoming fear and doubt.

I just can't take it anymore!! I tried and tried but it is so drug out at the beginning with thanks to everybody she has ever met in her entire life from birth but then goes into me me me me and how bad I used to be but how great I am now. I got a few chapters in and had to quit. I listened to other documentaries from Chris froome, Bradley Wiggins and Sean Yates and they were good but this was too much.

This book was absolutely incredible. It is inspiring and thought provoking. It will make you think differently about your life and how you involve yourself with different parts of your life. It will challenge you to question your effort in different parts of your life. Most of all, it will encourage you to look more closely about those things and aspects in your life that you spend your time thinking about most.

    "Inspirational, educational and entertaining!"

Chrissie Wellington's story is a great inspiration for anyone that has ever wondered 'if' they were capable of doing something.
It is extremely rare for a successful athlete to start in their sport at the ripe old age of 30 and even more remarkable if you then go on to absolutely dominate it. That's exactly what she has done and her name should be right up there with the greatest sports superstars of the last century...the Michael Jordan, Pele, Maradona, Messi league of greats.
In the typical self deprecating way only a Brit can, she describes how becoming a world champion wasn't something she was 'born' to do but rather a culmination of fortunate occurrences and opportunities that led her to the sport...what happened after she fell into triathlon was down to her working her arse off and making the most of her tremendous physical gifts. Great story of a great champion

    "An inspiring listen"
What did you like most about A Life Without Limits?

Firstly, I really liked Imogen Church's reading and will keep an eye out for other audiobooks narrated by her.

I really enjoyed this audiobook and found it quite inspiring. I had never heard of Chrissie before listening to this book, as the world of sport and athletics has never interested me much. I think that is partly because the readily accessible sport coverage, for me, was predominantly masculine and normally accompanied by macho talk and disparaging comments from fellow [male] spectators when I pondered how nice it would be to see coverage of women's sports. I tuned out long before women's sports became more accessible and thus I missed out.

Chrissie's story though inspired me to search out coverage, not just of women, but also of these endurance sports. I had no idea what an Iron Man entailed and am blown away that so many people have undertaken such an amazing journey. The book highlighted for me how such events are not about pure physical ability, but really all about one's mind.

I found the tone of this audiobook to be inviting and quite personal in places. Her observations on development were not just interesting, but they struck a chord with me.

But perhaps most shockingly of all, the book pushed me towards putting on some trainers and going for a run, albeit a very short one.

I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

P.S I totally support the petition for professional women in Tour de France which Chrissie endorses

What does Imogen Church bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She brings some accents but also emotion through her narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many moments that moved me, especially some of the race descriptions with the Iron Man during which Chrissie was crook being one of the most memorable.

    "Inspirational!"

I've listened to more than just a few audiobooks, but this one tops the list! Listening to Chrissie Wellington's journey through Triathlon and Iron man, pushing herself to her limit and beyond was an absolute joy. She is more than just your average sporting hero, she is a true Champion. You can apply her mind set to not only your sporting endeavours, but to your everyday life. I run about 3 times a week probably averaging about 20 miles, but listening to this book, makes me push that little bit harder every time. I would recommend this book anyone and everyone. Truly inspirational!!

    "Ironwoman!"

I knew what an Ironman distance triathlon was and that Chrissie Wellington was an undefeated world champion before I started listening to this book, but how much of a real life champion she is was a joy to listen to. What she endured through training and races were amazing feats, but the thing, to me, that proves her champion status beyond a doubt is that after (winning) every Ironman distance event she entered she would remain on the finish line till the cut off time to welcome home all of the age group athletes. I supported my sister and brother in law at their 1st Ironman and volunteered in the finishing enclosure until they finished, so I know first hand what an awe inspiring experience welcoming the athletes home can be, but I had to go for a nap while my people were out on their bike because it was such a long day. To complete the race and then be able to hang around at the finish, for another 8 hours approximately, to see everyone else home is almost beyond my comprehension. It's no wonder Chrissie is a successful motivational speaker.

I really enjoyed Imogen Church's narration of the book, tho in my head that's now what Chrissie sounds like.

Probably one of the best narrated books I've listened to in a long, long time. Imogen Church puts real feeling into it.

More than once I sat in the car at the end of a journey because I couldn't bear to switch off. A truly inspiring and often funny life story. I can't wait to see what Chrissie does with the rest of her life.
