Publisher's Summary

Before I Do: Bride Vows is a wonderful resource for information, whether you're looking for it before you say "I do," after the wedding, after the kids, or even until eternity.

According to the bible, wives should submit to their husbands just as they submit to the Lord. Because the husband is the head of the wife in the same way that Christ is the head of the church, there really is a challenge presented here, isn't there? Figuring out what it means for the husband to be the head of the wife can be a challenging endeavor because of this difficulties. This not only brings up the themes of subjection and oppression, but it also brings up the question of how much the social condition of the moment affects the amount to which the husband is the head of the household.

The fact that we live in a fallen world makes this issue more challenging, though. Permit me to transport you to Genesis chapter three, to the event known as the fall, which is the starting point of our problem. The following is what God warned would happen as a direct consequence of their disobedience. In Gen 3:16, he said to the woman, "I will greatly increase your pangs in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." Although the woman's pain during childbirth would be greatly increased, she would still desire her husband, and he would have authority over her.

To put it another way, her desire for her husband is not so much a desire to have sexual relations with him, as it is a desire to exert power over him. Therefore, as a consequence of the fall, men now hold authority over women, despite the fact that most women would prefer the situation to be reversed. Our goal is not to love and adore one another. Rather, it is to have complete control. Therefore, the tendency that comes more naturally to us is not to surrender to one another, but rather to dominate over one another. Because of this, it is going to be quite challenging for us to deal with a passage such as this one. It is difficult for wives since they do not wish to bow to the authority of another person.

Before I Do: Bride Vows is a guidebook that provides brides and grooms with actionable measures they may take to build meaningful and fulfilling marriages.
