Story
The man most hated by the LAPD - a black lawyer who has made his name by bringing lawsuits alleging racism and brutality by police officers - has been found murdered on the eve of a high-profile trial. The list of suspects includes half the police force. And Harry Bosch is the detective chosen to head the investigation. The political dangers of the case are huge. If it's not investigated fairly, the public outcry could make the Rodney King riots look tame. But a full investigation will take Bosch into the ugliest corners of law enforcement.

Publisher's Summary
Harry Bosch finds himself yet again in charge of a case that no one else will touch. This time his job is to nail the killer of hot shot black lawyer Howard Elias. Elias has been found murdered on the eve of going to court on behalf of Michael Harris, a man the LAPD believes guilty of the rape and murder of a twelve-year-old girl.
Elias had let it be known that the aim of his civil case was not only to reveal the real killer but to target and bring down the racist cops who beat up his client during a violent interrogation. Now it's all down to Bosch - and he's got to take a long, hard look at some of his colleagues in a police department that is rife with suspicion and hatred.

Appalling narration. OK once you get use to it.
Almost worse than Burt's attempt. Actually Burts would have been better if he didn't lapse into whispers. This guy sounds like the promo voice over man for cheap horror movies. Some off his other voices are ok but his Bosch and his overall narration voice is hard to listen to. Still worth listening to, Bosch's voice might be easier for USA listeners used to the tone and accent. Great story.

Good story with Michael Connelly's usual twist.
Would you listen to Angels Flight again? Why?
Would not listen again as now I know "who done it".
What other book might you compare Angels Flight to, and why?
Similar format to other Harry Bosch books. Always a twist at the end, which is enjoyable.
Have you listened to any of Peter Giles’s other performances? How does this one compare?
The voice used for Harry Bosch was really annoying... gravelly. I have grown used to the previous narration of the early books in the series and Titus Welliver's narration in the more recent books. There was no reason to give Harry such a different voice for this novel.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I didn't have time for one sitting. I listened to it over a few days.

Different from the others
The story was great, but *really* didn’t like the performer. Every sentence sounded like Batman talking. 😬

Gripping
The whole Bosch series so far has been an awesome listen. However, like the Concrete Blonde title in the series, this book has a darker element which truly turns your stomach but at the same time has you completely invested. A truly exceptional book. The narration was a bit American Aggro action movie trailer voicy but the story stands up on its own and the voice doesn't detract from it much. The whole series needs a more Noir style narration with some edge to it, which was achieved in the first few titles.
Overall I love the series, and really loved this book.
