Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling author of Centurion, The Gladiator and Praetorian, a new military adventure for battle-hardened centurions Macro and Cato, fighting for the Empire in Britannia. For nearly 10 years, the Roman Empire has fought ceaselessly to strengthen its hold over Britannia. But opposition from native tribes led by the ruthless warrior Caratacus threatens to destroy everything. Prefect Cato and Centurion Macro are summoned by Governor Ostorius to Londinium.

Tasked with leading a newly formed cavalry cohort into the heartland of Wales, they must destroy the growing resistance. But with Caratacus hatching increasingly ambitious plans and disorder threatening from within Macro and Cato's own ranks, this final test will push the soldiers to their limits. And if they do not emerge as victors, the Emperor Claudius's rule may be at stake, and the very foundations of the Roman Empire could be shattered irrevocably.

"Macro & Cato at their Best!"
Where does The Blood Crows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

AS far as historical novels go this is the best I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love the depth within Cato's character. He is ruthless but shows some empathy to the people he is often forced to kill

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The battle scenes are really brought to life with the speed change in the narrators voice

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    none

    Any additional comments?

Having read a lot of Simon Scarrow's work I was already a fan , but listening to the story rather than reading gave it a third dimension.

    "It's been a long "Bromance"!"

This is a long series of stories. We've trudged across the Empire with Cato and Macro. I felt that the previous couple of books were a bit formulaic, and I was unsure whether to continue with this one. Glad I did. I think I mainly buy these books for the action. There's plenty of top quality blood and guts in this episode.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Blood Crows?

The young man who had been impaled by the side of road

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Keeble – was your favourite?

    Macro

Would you consider the audio edition of The Blood Crows to be better than the print version?

Having not read the book I cannot comment, I do intend to add it to my Kindle library for my holiday

What did you like best about this story?

The action packed story line you feel you could be over looking the scenes

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

As I said not read the book but the way Jonathan Keeble changes the the pitch on his voice and accents add to the overall enjoyment of the book

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No paticular part as I enjoyed the whole book

    Any additional comments?

Keep up the good partnership between author and reader

"Macro & Cato are in trouble again"
What made the experience of listening to The Blood Crows the most enjoyable?

It is the edge of the seat drama that Mr Scarrow does very well with these characters, seamlessly inserting them into historical events like Sharpe and Harper

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It is typical of this type of drama, no author kills off their central characters, despite the peril that they are placed in

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He is excellent at adding the requisite atmosphere to the novel, I certainly would recommend this production because of this. I look forward to future recordings of his.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was but unfortunately work kept getting in the way

    Any additional comments?

I'm a huge fan of this author and am looking to his next publication

    "Cato & Macro ride again!"

Another very bloody Cato and Macro novel, set in a part of Britain where Roman rule is tenuous, and the "Roman" troops are themselves from fairly barbaric tribes.
The two think they have jumped out of the frying pan that their service to the Imperial secretary and freedman, Narcissus, has tied them in for the last few years. Back to military service they find that the frying pan sat on a rather dangerous fire.

"You know what the weather's like in this ...island"
If you could sum up The Blood Crows in three words, what would they be?

    Marching, mud and madness

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Keeble – was your favourite?

Not one but two - the friends and our heroes, Cato and Macro. I had read all of the earlier books in Simon Scarrow's marvellous Eagles series and was concerned that Jonathan Keeble's interpretation of them would fall contrary to my mental pictures. Instead, his reading enhanced my appreciation of Scarrow's characters and perfectly fitted, with vocal change of pace, the speed of the narrative. Superb.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, and I did.

    Any additional comments?

The two friends, Cato and Macro, back in the army in Britannia and hoping to live the simple life, facing only Rome's enemies and unchallenged by political conspiracy. Fortunately for us, not a chance.A good book in a brilliant series.
