Publisher's Summary

When an aristocratic old lady is brutally murdered in her country home the night before 9/11, it takes all the resources of the FBI and Interpol to work out the connection between her and the possible motive for her death - a priceless Van Gogh painting.

It's a young woman in the North Tower when the first plane crashed into the building who has the courage and determination to take on both sides of the law and avenge the old lady's death. Anna Petrescu is missing, presumed dead, after 9/11 and she uses her new status to escape from America, only to be pursued across the world from Toronto to London, to Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bucharest, but it is only when she returns to New York that the mystery unfolds. Why are so many people willing to risk their own lives and others' to own the Van Gogh Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear?

    "What a joy!"

Masterful descriptions bringing each of the countries alive. Lorelei King's voice is pure pleasure to listen to. As an extremely picky accent/dialect self-styled judge I thought that this was one of 'the best ever' mixtures of American and English with perhaps two inaccurate Americanised Englsh pronunciations in the whole book - together with the inevitable

"Did archer really write this rubbish?"

Ih ad to listen to the end to be convinced that the author - i should say the brilliant author - of The Clifton Chronicles - could bring himself to be associated with this this nonsense. He should fire his unworthy ghost writer, as I am quite sure that he could not have penned it himself. It is not worthy of him

"Had to keep listening at expense of housework etc!"

Did not like the American voice which was too much of the same pitch. The story had an incredibly complicated plot and was clever as usual with this author.

    "Expected better"

This the first J Archer book I have tried, I was disappointed, the story seemed a little predicable, and took a little while to hook me in, it really was slow going in places. There is nothing wrong with the subject it just all seems implausible.

I think the biggest problem with this book is it written by a British author that starts in England, it does go across the globe to get to its conclusion, yet it is full of american grammar and dates it's a distraction. just to clarify 9 23 is a time never a date.

Finally the narrator is awful, nobody in the UK talks as she performed the characters, and her accents are the kind I have experienced on comedy shows, poor doesn't even begin to rate her.

I do have some more J Archer audio books that I will try but never the narrator again.

    "Great story"

Really enjoyed this, great for in car listening! Twists and turns, without overly exploited plots.
Realistic characters, and accurate knowledge of NYC, London and Europe make this a very plausible work of fiction.

Jeffrey always gives a great story. Well read with several twists to keep the intrigue that you have come to expect in his books.

"Gripping story - easy to listen"
Would you listen to False Impression again? Why?

I have enjoyed many of Jeffery Archer's books. This book was no exception. The story was well put together as always and very easy read/listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

Connection with the art world (my mum was an art dealer and I use to attend Sotheby's & Christies' auction from the age of 16).

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all the Kay Scarpetta series read by Lorelei King and I always enjoyed her performance. This one was no exception.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was quite sad when her driver was murdered in her home country, loved the way Anna has out smarted her former boss and suspense when the killer was in her room.
