Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was born in Wales, on September 13th, 1916. Being most prolific between the 1940s and 1980s, Dahl’s first successful children’s book, James and the Giant Peach, was published in November, 1961. Three years later, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published, cementing his place in the hearts of children and adults, alike, for generations to come.

Dahl is internationally acclaimed for children’s fiction, much of which has been adapted into successful films. Notable examples, include Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), The Witches (1990), Matilda (1996), James and the Giant Peach (1996), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Fantastic Mr Fox (2009), and The BFG (2016).

Roald Dahl was born to Norwegian parents who named him after famous Norwegian polar explorer, Roald Amundsen.
