Story
Bryony Gordon was not a runner. A loafer, a dawdler, a drinker, a smoker, yes. A runner, no. Yet somehow, as she began to recover from the emotional roller coaster of laying her life bare in her mental health memoir Mad Girl, she started to realise that getting outside, moving her body and talking to others for whom life was also an occasional challenge might actually help her.

Story
Over the previous decade, Bella had been so paralysed by her fears that exercise was the very last thing on her mind. So that first run didn’t last very long. But to her surprise, she was back out there the next day. And the day after that. She began to set herself achievable goals - to run 5k in under 30 minutes, to walk to work every day for a week, to attempt 10 push-ups in a row. Before she knew it, her mood was lifting for the first time in years, and she had swapped hiding in her house for fresh air, unknown roads and running tracks.

In her memoir, Sweeney shares how she overcame emotional and physical challenges to finish the race and come back from the brink.

Publisher's Summary
I Can Run is not a running book for 'runners' - it's the must-have running book for every woman who has ever experienced a moment of defeatism and had the little voice in their head make the excuse 'I can't run'. In 12 chapters, you will discover that you can. You will dig deep to find your inner athlete. You'll learn how to train smart, recover well, sync your runs to your menstrual cycle and fuel right. I Can Run will ensure you never again wait until you're thin enough, fast enough, athletic enough, whatever-next enough to call yourself a runner, because if you put one foot in front of the other, repeatedly, you are a runner.
I Can Run recognises that this is hard and that committing to consistent training is often more of an accomplishment than the 10km, half marathon or marathon race itself. You will find comfort and encouragement in Amy's experience of cramps, chafing and the occasional little sick, while learning from leading experts about how to set yourself up for success and get the very best from your runs both physically and mentally.
This book is real talk about the keys to going well far. We're all in it for the long run, together. We can do this!

Inspiring and informative
Lots of great info that I haven't found in other running books (training info as well as (biologically) female body-specific information), so it's well worth a listen.
FYI - content warning due to discussion of eating disorders in the book.
