Publisher's Summary
Kathy Reichs meets Fragile Lives in this fascinating and compelling memoir from the UK's most eminent forensic scientist and some of the most fascinating criminal investigations she has worked on.
'Finding the right answers is what forensic science is all about. What often matters even more, however, is asking the right questions.'
Never before has criminal justice rested so heavily on scientific evidence. With ever-more sophisticated and powerful techniques at their disposal, forensic scientists have an unprecedented ability to help solve even the most complex cases.
Angela Gallop has been a forensic scientist for over 40 years. After joining the Forensic Science Service, the first crime scene she attended was for a case involving the Yorkshire Ripper. As well as working on a wide range of cases in many countries around the world, she is now the most sought-after forensic scientist in the UK, where she has helped solve numerous high-profile cases, including the investigation that finally absolved the Cardiff Three, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path murders and the killings of Stephen Lawrence, Damilola Taylor, Rachel Nickell and Roberto Calvi.
From the crime scene to the courtroom, When the Dogs Don't Bark is the remarkable story of a life spent searching for the truth.

Very interesting science.
Fascinating how much time and detail goes into the examination of minute specks of forensic data.

Serviceable, but not engaging
Without question, Gallop is a high achiever in the field of forensic science in the UK. Impeccablely written, precise and well structured. However, the book seems to be aimed at decision makers and bureaucrats, so it's not especially engaging for the lay reader. The decision to include examples where the outcome has been forgotten or is unknown was odd, given thousands of cases to choose from, a minor quibble, but contributes to diluting reader interest. It's also worth noting that only people in the UK will have any familiarity with the cases cited, with few exceptions, and, of course, the development of forensic science over many decades is confined to her contribution in the UK, a book from any other country would provide different, and perhaps more interesting, nsights.

Not as good as the rest
I love books about solving crimes, particularly forensics. But this one just drove me nuts. So much stuff about her business and totally boring stuff like that. I guess it just wasn’t for me

Thoroughly enjoyed
It's great to listen to, and very interesting to hear about the other side of forensics. I definitely recommend
