Publisher's Summary
Mourning the death of his father and gravely injured at the hands of the English, Jamie Fraser finds himself running with a band of mercenaries in the French countryside, where he reconnects with his old friend, Ian Murray. Both are nursing wounds, both have good reason to stay out of Scotland, and both are still virgins despite several opportunities to remedy that deplorable situation with ladies of easy virtue.
But Jamie's love life becomes infinitely more complicated - and dangerous - when fate brings the young men into the service of Dr. Hasdi, a Jewish gentleman who hires them to escort two priceless treasures to Paris. One is an old Torah; the other is the doctor's beautiful daughter, Rebekah, destined for an arranged marriage. Both Jamie and Ian are instantly drawn to the bride-to-be - but they might be more cautious if they had any idea who they're truly dealing with.

Awesome- as usual
As with all of Diana Gabaldon’s books it is a captivating story involving characters from the Outlander series.
I have never been so addicted to a series of books & am now into my fourth reading of the entire series, including all of the Lord John Series & other novellas & bulges.
Go on read them, you won’t be disappointed.
I like to read & listen to the books at the same time & all of the books are available in Audible.

Fabulous narration, wish it was longer!
Would you listen to Virgins again? Why?
Have already listened to it twice and will no doubt listen to it again before too long. Easy to listen to with wonderful narration (considering it's not the always spectacular Davina Porter).
Who was your favorite character and why?
Well, of course Jamie BUT it was a real treat to get to know Ian a little more, especially as they are both out of their natural environs.
Which character – as performed by Allan Scott-Douglas – was your favourite?
I loved him doing Ian. As daft as it sounds, Jamie is, and always will be Davina Porter in book form and Sam Heughan on screen.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh plenty. Lots of fabulous banter between the two besties.
Any additional comments?
Am so used to all of (well, most of) Diana's books being tomes (which I relish), that I was left wanting. I guess I, like many others, just can't get enough of James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser (et al).

Terrible narration
The story probably wasn’t too bad but the narrator was the worst I’ve ever heard. When he was using and accent for a character he often got mixed up and used the accent for the narrative in between the characters speech. The voice that he used for Jamie was totally wrong, as at the time of this story Jamie would have been quite a young man, the deep gruff voice that the narrator used was completely off putting and made it hard to focus on the actual story.
I wish I’d taken the time to read the book myself rather than listen to the audio book.

Great Story
Would you try another book written by Diana Gabaldon or narrated by Allan Scott-Douglas?
I always would by books by Diana Gabaldon. I will not buy a book narrated by Allan Scott. I really hated the voice he used for Jamie. To such a degree I actually had to finish the book by reading it. Spoilt the whole experience. Though I did enjoy the story.
Would you be willing to try another one of Allan Scott-Douglas’s performances?
No

Interesting backstory about Jamie & Ian
Interesting backstory about Jamie & Ian as young men, and the development of their friendship. It's especially good to get more insight into Ian Murray's story & character. Didn't find the storyline quite as interesting or gripping as Diana Gabaldon's other books though.

Don't bother
Very short uninteresting story, could have been so much better. Bit of of let down after reading the Outlander series. Wont be buying any of the other short stories.

Waste of time
What disappointed you about Virgins?
There didn't seem to be any purpose in this book. Quite disappointing to read after reading the Outlander series, which are so informative and exciting. Diana Gabaldon excels in long novels rather than short ones I think.
What could Diana Gabaldon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She should have turned this into a story about Jamie's time in France rather than just a snippet. It just came across as meaningless and I got the feeling it was written more from financial gain than readers pleasure.
What about Allan Scott-Douglas’s performance did you like?
I think it was alright... I'm writing this review quite a while after I finished the book, only just found time to review it.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Virgins?
I would add more to the story or scrapped the whole thing completely.

Sordid
Unnecessary crudity spoils the story and character development and doesn’t add anything to the picture of Jamie and Ian. In fact the depiction of their attitudes towards women doesn’t gel in my opinion with the young men they become and the respect they show their wives.
