THE MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING PHENOMENON

This is the story of Sam and Sadie. It's not a romance, but it is about love.

When Sam catches sight of Sadie at a crowded train station one morning he is catapulted straight back to childhood, and the hours they spent immersed in playing games.

Their spark is instantly reignited and sets off a creative collaboration that will make them superstars. It is the 90s, and anything is possible.

What comes next is a decades-long tale of friendship and rivalry, fame and art, betrayal and tragedy, perfect worlds and imperfect ones. And, above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love.

Fantastic!

What a great story. I’m not a gamer and I’m a generation older than the author and her characters, but I liked everything about this book. And the narration for this one is perfect too!

yeah good

This is a perfect read for 80's babies who enjoy indulging in video game nostalgia and the fantasy of being a hugely successful video game designer. It was a fun listen and an enjoyable exploration of friendship and resilience.

A book about loss, success, trauma and video games

Such a gently told story. Alot of dialogue which felt realistic and added a tender humanity to the story. The story itself was captivating and sad and sometimes wistful. I loved the use of video games as a character and a metaphor. Very clever.

Beautiful, like a meditation

I loved this book so much. Beautifully written. At first I wasn’t sure about the narration but it grew on me and matched the story perfectly. I didn’t want it to end.

Never wanted it to end

I absolutely loved this book, to the point I rewound several times as I came towards the end just to try to make it last longer. I'll miss Sadie and Sam and Marx.

Great character building

Well written so you knew the characters intimately and felt for them. Great design of story line. Sad for it to have come to an end!
