Still holds up
I read this series a number of years ago and found it quite entertaining at the time. I picked it up to re-read it just recently, but this time via audible. Still quite entertaining, and it mostly holds up that it could be happening right now. The only thing that is missing for it to be in current times is the evolution of the mobile phones. Still an entertaining read, i listened to the first book via audible, and as I do with any series I start listening to, I get impatient and choose to read them all myself as it is faster. Good series for a light read.

Coming of age, with apocalyptic themes.
I loved this book as a teenager, and loved revisiting it as an adult. it's both hard-hitting in its realism and relatability, and engrossing in its jarring strangeness - we go from a normal bunch of kids camping out, to the fear of having to decide what to do as victims of a military invasion - hide? Fight? What would you do? These themes and associated thoughts and feelings are thoroughly explored with all the passion and introspection of reflective adolescence.
Suzi Dougherty's performance is spot-on, with varied pacing for the reflections and the action, and consistent, relatable voices for each character. She brings Ellie's narrative voice to life. This audiobook is worth a listen whether you're new to this series, or revisiting an old favourite in a new format. I can't wait to get to the others.

love the book but the narrator is really annoying
I love this book but I'm finding the children reading the book really grinding, I don't think I'll finish listening.
