Publisher's Summary

Two o'clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time - and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It's a truth that 17-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors. And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems.

Danny's new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: He is the tower's clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield's time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden and means risking everything he's fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target, or he'll lose not only his father but the boy he loves - forever.

This is the stunning first novel in a new trilogy by debut author Tara Sim.

Amazing premise and writinf

The world was so interesting and engaging and it was so nice to see homosexual characters that are actual people and not walking stereotypes. The characters are so easy to get attatched to because of how well they are developed so quickly. easy 5 stars from me.

Great steam punk YA m/m romance!

Before the god of time was vanquished, time ceased being universal and each localised time zone is run by each town’s clock tower, which is maintained by the guild of clock mechanics. In 1875 London, 17 yo Danny Hart is the youngest person to rise to the rank of mechanic and he’s been sent to repair the Colton Clock Tower in Enfield. There he meets a cute teen, Colton, the spiritual embodiment of time who resides in the tower and they fall for each other. Danny’s already on thin ice with the guild after he and his father were involved in a terrible mishap which has frozen the town of Maldon in time. Someone is sabotaging clock towers and when they steal Colton’s central cog, Danny must find it before the love of his life fades and Enfield also freezes in time.

I absolutely loved the world building in this steampunk YA romance—the ideas were so refreshing and engaging! The cars and motorbikes are steam-powered and there’s not a digital object in sight. The romance was really sweet, Danny and Colton made a cute, chaste couple. I also liked that Danny was such an unlikely hero, not robust or muscly, but clever and bighearted. There was a lot to this story with subplots around Danny’s family, mechanics jealous of Danny’s quick rise, the anti-clock tower movement, and the literal race against time to win the day. UK voice actor Gary Furlong is a favourite narrator, although he really pelted along here and it took me time to adjust to the fast tempo (the trilogy is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).

Ok if you’re a teenager maybe

Yeah, nah. Interesting idea, but the execution resulted in characters that felt like cardboard cutouts and a plot like a kids book. Can’t check from here but possibly IS a kids book. It was free, so thanks anyway.

Homosexual relationship with a spirit...

I enjoy fantasy and scifi, but I don't like the homosexual relationships with a spirit in this book.
