Story
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Story
The Devil comes to Moscow, but he isn't all bad; Pontius Pilate sentences a charismatic leader to his death, but yearns for redemption; and a writer tries to destroy his greatest tale, but discovers that manuscripts don't burn. Multi-layered and entrancing, blending sharp satire with glorious fantasy, The Master and Margarita is ceaselessly inventive and profoundly moving. In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Publisher's Summary
A masterpiece from one of the great contemporary American writers.
Anniversary edition with a new afterword from the author.
A worldwide best seller since its publication, Irving's classic is filled with stories inside stories about the life and times of T. S. Garp, struggling writer and illegitimate son of Jenny Fields - an unlikely feminist heroine ahead of her time.
Beautifully written, The World According to Garp is a powerfully compelling and compassionate coming-of-age novel that established John Irving as one of the most imaginative writers of his generation.
Critic Reviews
"A wonderful novel, full of energy and art, at once funny and heartbreaking...terrific." (Washington Post)
"A diamond sleeping in the dark, chipped out at last for our enrichment and delight...As approachable as it is brilliant." (Cosmopolitan)

A book easily to put down. Basic writing and overuse of shock tactics rather than thought provoking. Agree, narrator is highly irritating and speaks very slowly

A classic narrated perfectly
Having read The World According to Garp many times over the years I was excited to listen to this recording. I was not disappointed. The narrator did a perfect job of presenting the characters. Highly recommend.

Uninspiring
I struggled to get into this story. I found the voice of the narrator uninteresting and dull as he read in almost a monotone.

Massive disappointment
Every word of dialogue was read with a cynical sarcastic tone! However now I’ve finished I realise that possibly that is how these truly odious people spoke to each other. I’m not sure why I persevered to the end. A massive disappointment.
