Eel Marsh house stands alone, surveying the windswept salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway. Mrs Alice Drablow lived here as a recluse. Now Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor with a London firm, is summoned to attend her funeral, unaware of the tragic and terrible secrets which lie behind the house's shuttered windows.
It is not until he glimpses a young woman at the funeral with a wasted face, dressed all in black, that a sense of profound unease begins to creep over him, a feeling deepened by the reluctance of the locals to talk about the woman in black or what happens whenever she is seen.
Kipps has to stay on in the lonely house, sorting out Mrs. Drablow's papers. The mist begins to enshroud it and the surrounding graveyard and the high tide cuts it off from the outside world....

Hilling and suspenseful
I saw this as a play in Covent Garden in England 28 years ago. It really hit home. This version did not disappoint- in fact it is fantastic. Wonderfully narrated! Highly recommend!

Exquisite
Essiedu is stunning in his performance, I hope he goes on to do many more an audiobook as he is a blessing to the ears.

A Real Production
I thought the story was thin. Nothing much to it really. I don't usually listen to scary stories but this wasn't really scary. The production however was thoroughly worth the listen. I used my headphones and the surround sound was amazing.

Intriguing story
I couldn’t stop listening , had myself plugged in while exercising, doing housework or whatever. Really enjoyed the whole story , kept me totally enthralled. Loved it 😊

Breathtakingly Good.
That was a truly amazing story. I’m still catching my breath. All words have been carefully chosen.the Narrater is exceptional. I don’t think I’ve heard such concise grammar. I really loved this read.

Sound effects
I really enjoyed this book, although it was the first time I had experienced sound effects behind the narration, and I actually found them quite annoying and distracting, but I listen to the end and I enjoyed the story and the narration. Thank you

A rollicking good story
I enjoyed this old-style horror story and the accompanying sound effects, (once I got used to them). I liked the historical nature of the story and the descriptive language used.

Brilliant!
This was one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. The story is haunting and devastating and is beautifully narrated. I found that I really liked the sound effects as they added to the heavy atmosphere of the tale. I listened to the entire story in a day
