Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

One of SFX magazine's Most Anticipated Books for 2016. An epic vision of man and machine in the far reaches of space. Carlos is dead. A soldier who died for his ideals a 1000 years ago, he's been reincarnated and conscripted to fight an A.I. revolution in deep space. And he's not sure he's fighting for the right side. Seba is alive. By a fluke of nature, a contractual overlap and a loop in its subroutines, this lunar mining robot has gained sentience.

Publisher’s blurb does not do this book justice

Publisher's Summary
From science fiction visionary Annalee Newitz comes The Terraformers, a sweeping, uplifting, and illuminating exploration of the future.
Destry's life is dedicated to terraforming Sask-E. As part of the Environmental Rescue Team, she cares for the planet and its burgeoning eco-systems as her parents and their parents did before her.
But the bright, clean future they're building comes under threat when Destry discovers a city full of people that shouldn't exist, hidden inside a massive volcano.
As she uncovers more about their past, Destry begins to question the mission she's devoted her life to, and must make a choice that will reverberate through Sask-E's future for generations to come.
A science fiction epic for our times and a love letter to our future, The Terraformers will take you on a journey spanning thousands of years and exploring the triumphs, strife, and hope that find us wherever we make our home.
Critic Reviews
"The Terraformers is so engaging, you could almost miss the pyrotechnic worldbuilding and bone-deep intelligence. Newitz continues doing some of the best work in the field." (James S. A. Corey)
"A complete reimagining of the great galactic story of terraformers. Startling fun!" (Kim Stanley Robinson)
"Newitz always sees to the heart of complex systems and breaks them down with poetic ferocity." (N. K. Jemisin)

Story has some nice ideas but poor narration
Newitz has some great innovative ideas, but she needs more of a storyline in which to clothe them, and the characters could do with a bit more depth. But thats OK. What really ruined this book for me (and made me give up halfway through, which I rarely do) was the poor diction of the narrator. It varies. Sometimes she speaks clearly, and other times she swallows the consonants so all you hear are vowel sounds, as if she is very tired or has been drinking. There were some passages where after a few minutes I would have to confess that I had no idea what was going on and had to replay it at slow speed to try to unpick the words. That doesn't make for enjoyable reading! And so I abandoned it.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
