Story
After seven long years of conflict, the Horus Heresy nears its end. But now, as the Warmaster Horus marches on Terra to rip his father from the Throne, the seat of the arch-traitor’s power lies empty. Cthonia, a world once dominated by brutal murder-gangs, is occupied by the Emperor’s praetorians—the indomitable Imperial Fists. For the Sons of Horus, this outrage demands a reckoning.

Story
Of all the Emperor’s sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Sanctioned because of his desire for knowledge, chastised, judged, and shattered to his very elements – there is much for the Crimson King to feel vengeful for. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster’s besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet – the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Publisher's Summary
The Siege of Terra Book 1
After years of devastating war, Horus and his forces have arrived at Terra. But before they can set foot on the Throneworld, they must first break the defences of the Sol System.
Powerful fleets and cunning defences bar their path - but can anything hope to halt the advance of the Traitor armada?
Listen to it because:
The final act of the long-running, best-selling series starts here, with a brutal and uncompromising look at the first stage of the Siege of Terra, the war to conquer the solar system. Armies will fall, heroes will rise and legends will be written....
The Story
After seven years of bitter war, the end has come at last for the conflict known infamously as the Horus Heresy. Terra now lies within the Warmaster’s sights, the Throneworld and the seat of his father’s rule. Horus’ desire is nothing less than the death of the Emperor of Mankind and the utter subjugation of the Imperium. He has become the ascendant vessel of Chaos and amassed a terrible army with which to enact his will and vengeance.
But the way to the Throne will be hard as the primarch Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian and protector of Terra, marshals the defences. First and foremost, Horus must challenge the might of the Sol System itself and the many fleets and bulwarks arrayed there.
To gain even a foothold on Terran soil, he must first contend the Solar War. Thus the first stage of the greatest conflict in the history of all mankind begins.

Great book, well worth your creds!
*My Inner Child laughs constantly when Keeble has Uranus bants.*
Solar war is easily a standout in the HH series, I've read and listened to about 30 of the stories now and this feels like it goes back to the good old days of Horus Rising.

Absolutely Boss.
Keeble nails the narration as always, his ability to change his voice acting as Daemons is something to awe at.
Loved the story and happy to hear some more action from Dorn as it's been too long! Bring on the epic HH battles as Terra is around the corner!

Solid addition to the Horus Heresy Series
John French has really developed his story telling with this novel. Story is skillfully threaded from the rest of the series and characters are tested in meaningful ways.
Narration by Johnathan Keeble is charged with life and every stop is pulled out to deliver an excellent rendition and bring the story to the minds eye.

A must listen
The Solar War is here. The fleets of Horus crash upon the defences of Sol and its fortified worlds and moons. Devastation is wrought. Heroes slain. Cascades of not only traitor forces, but untold numbers of demons are unleashed. Conspiracies and treacherous plots which have required years of careful foresight and planning, come to fruition. Blow upon evil blow is landed. Hope lost... but it is not yet the end. There are those that live and fight against the darkness and those that bring it. A must listen, fantastically written and narrated. Keeble works the story brilliantly. Don't miss this instalment for a huge amount occurs.

Poetry in motion
I didn't know how they were going to pull it off, but as usual I wasn't disappointed with the account of the Solar War.
It is beautifully composed, and majestic in scale, propelling the reader through the fire and blood of the opening stages of the battle for Terra with no shortage of memorable moments and deep, poetically charged dialogue and description.
Read it, or listen to it being skilfully narrated, but certainly don't pass it by!
