Story
Gundagai, 1852. The powerful Murrumbidgee River surges through town leaving death and destruction in its wake. It is a stark reminder that while the river can give life, it can just as easily take it away. Wagadhaany is one of the lucky ones. She survives. But is her life now better than the fate she escaped? Forced to move away from her miyagan, she walks through each day with no trace of dance in her step, her broken heart forever calling her back home to Gundagai.

Story
You’d never know what secrets the house on Hogarth Street holds - what’s happening, right this second, behind closed doors. An emerald-green front lawn. Perfectly trimmed hedging. An ivy-covered front gate and the scent of honeysuckle in the air. In the yard, two scooters lie on the grass. One blue, one pink, belonging to five-year-old twins.

Story
In Unamurra, a drought-scarred, one-pub town deep in the outback, two men are savagely murdered a month apart - their bodies elaborately arranged like angels. With no witnesses, no obvious motives and no apparent connections between the killings, how can lone police officer Detective Dana Russo - flown in from hundreds of kilometres away - possibly solve such a baffling, brutal case? Met with silence and suspicion from locals who live by their own set of rules, Dana must take over a stalled investigation with only a week to make progress.

Story
With her ex soon to be married, her mum back on the dating scene, and her best friend threatening to settle down with the Most Boring Man Alive, Stevie is feeling left behind. To top it off, her old uni mate Johnno West, whom she hasn't seen for years, keeps turning up as best man at Stevie's jobs. And he is looking so good. Perhaps their youthful pact—that if they were both still single in their early thirties they'd get together—is not so crazy after all? Then the enigmatic Charlie Jones walks into the frame.

Publisher's Summary
It's funny how quick it happens and without you really noticing. Anton said once that it's like walking out into the sea, and you think everything's fine and the water's warm, but when you turn back you're suddenly miles from shore. I've never been much of a swimmer, but I get what he means. Like being caught in a current or something. A rip.
A young woman living on the street has to keep her wits about her.
Or her friends. But when the drugs kick in that can be hard.
Anton has been looking out for her. She was safe with him. But then Steve came along.
He had something over Anton. Must have. But he had a flat they could crash in. And gear in his pocket. And she can't stop thinking about it. A good hit makes everything all right.
But the flat smells weird.
There's a lock on Steve's bedroom door.
And the guy is intense.
The problem is, sometimes you just don't know you are in too deep until you are drowning.

Gritty raw eye opening
The Rip literally rips open life on the streets , the evil pull of drug addiction and the sad decay of humans drawn into the web of addiction. There are a few spots in the he story which don’t quite get answered - but it’s easy to feel drawn into this story: well narrated

Gritty underbelly given a face
While I found the narration annoying - in particular the very low ,husky reading of the male characters - I was equally aghast and drawn to the very real and brutal perspective of life on the streets. The inability of the protagonist to take action made me want to scream for her but I understood that that state of mind is due to so many factors. This is rather nit picky - but I wondered how the dog (certainly one of the main characters) was being fed... and how she could afford to feed him. AS the novel was so real the omission of that detail jarred a bit. I'm glad I read this book - I thought the writing in particular how Mark Brandi captured her narrative voice and the setting was excellent .

Compelling and insightful
Narrated beautifully, very believable. The story paints a picture of life on the streets without being judgemental, confronting or preachy. Powerful.
