Story
In the shadow of the Pentland Hills, a man has been callously struck down in front of his home. Tyre marks suggest it was no accidental hit-and-run. Somebody wanted him dead and as the man fights for every breath, they might still get their wish. Grappling with the demons he thought he could leave behind after months away on enforced leave, D.S. Malkie McCulloch resists pressure from his superiors to pass the case on to the road policing unit, convinced that whoever was behind the wheel will be waiting for the chance to finish the job.

Great story

Publisher's Summary
When Professor Francombe and her team of archaeologists find the remains of three women on a remote Kintyre hillside - a site rumoured to have been the base of Viking warlord Somerled - their delight soon turns to horror when they realise the women tragically met their end little more than two decades ago. It soon becomes clear that these are the three missing victims of the ‘Midweek Murderer’, a serial killer who was at work in Glasgow in the early 1990s.
DCI Jim Daley now has the chance to put things right - to confront a nightmare from his past and solve a crime he failed to as a young detective. However, when Police Scotland’s Cold Case Unit arrive, they bring yet more ghosts to Kinloch.
A tale of death, betrayal, Viking treasure and revenge set in the thin places where past, present and future collide.

Another compelling DCI Daley tale
Although the frequent flips between Glasgow in 1994, and present day Kinloch are a little irritating, the story overall holds the reader’s (listener’s) interest. DCI Daley and DS Scott are engaging characters and I have become fond enough of them to want to know their respective fates.
The performance, as with all previous books in the series (apart from the awful Australian accent in the last book) is flawless.

Absolutely enthralled.
The story is as riveting as the former stories in this series. The development of the personal lives of the characters gives tension breaks from the plot as well as allowing us to feel more and more like part of the cast. I love the wonderful performance of David Monteath his accents and nuances are spot on!

A twisted mystery
The narrator was wonderful with the different character voices but it was jumping way too much from 1994 to present day, back n forth. Also the narrator should take a breath for a second or two where the author has left a space in the printing of the book. Sometimes it was confusing. Interesting mystery but concentration needed.

A Riveting Listen
Another great book by Denzil but particularly well delivered by David Monteath as usual! David's way with accents is remarkable. The storyline interweaves past cases to the present which makes for riveting listening.
