Story
In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.”

Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Story
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Story
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

Different but good.
It took me a while to get into this book. The switching back and forth between 1st and 2nd person perspective was a bit disconcerting at first but you get used to it. By the end of the book I didn't want it to be over.

An unexpected delight!
I wasn't expecting this book to be as good as it was. The reader was excellent and drew me right in with their accents and gravitas. The story is fabulous, and I love that the main character is trans.

A favourite
The plot is really quite odd, or at least I found it so. Yet I was drawn in and didn’t want the book to end. It helps that Adjoa Andoh is a superb narrator.

Not for me
Despite the fantastic narration and extensive worldbuidling, not enough happened in to hold my interest. Action was slow, characters distant and immemorable and the plot failed to engage.

Just couldn’t keep going
Got to ch 7 but from the horrendous frequency of the use of the word “you” in the first few chapters to the somewhat ridiculous story line of a god learning human language and taking a long time to figure out why someone was placing milk near them... I mean really .
No issues with narration.
