Twelve hundred British soldiers isolated on the small island of Kheros off the Turkish coast, waiting to die. Navarone itself, grim bastion of narrow straits manned by a mixed garrison of Germans and Italians, an apparently impregnable iron fortress.

Story
A collection of five suspenseful gems by master storyteller Frederick Forsyth, best-selling author of The Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File. Justice does not always come easily, and it comes in many guises. On the seedier side of London, a shopkeeper witnesses a brutal beating in The Veteran. In a better neighborhood, a famous London auction house is scammed in The Art of the Matter. And there's more … the other stories venture to a persecution in 16th century Sienna, a mid-flight drug smuggling heist, and the lone survivor of Custer's Last Stand. The voices of narrators Patrick MacNee, Bruce Boxleitner, and Christopher Casanove truly compliments the author's genius. Mixing together the elements of great suspense - revenge, mystery, murder and deception - this collection is Forsyth at his best.

Story
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

A lost civilisation. A curse reborn. Dr Ben Kazin has only a blurred photograph and a gut instinct that there is a lost city to uncover somewhere beneath the Botswana cliffs. Soon, a whispered curse and a chance encounter with a local tribe lead him to discover much more than city foundations. The curse, it seems, is real, and will link Ben, his oldest friend and the woman they both love with a forgotten leader from 2,000 years ago, in a city of glory and honour that subsequently disappeared without a trace.

The real OD
Great book that defines the era and the writing style of FF. Has it stood the test of time though?
Listening to it you'd think David Rintoul has been ravaged by a 40 a day Benson Hedges addiction since the 60's.
The story telling is sometimes conveniently placed. Why would Millar take his car??? mad....
Anyhow, a classic and thoroughly enjoyable with a good plot twist.
