Publisher's Summary
Imagine being alone in the world, one of only a handful to survive a global pandemic. Not only do you struggle to find food, water, and shelter but you also deal with the sadness and losing everyone you know and everything you have.
Fourteen-year-old Greg Dixon is living that nightmare. Attending boarding school outside of Boston, he is separated from his family when a pandemic strikes. His classmates and teachers are dead, rotting in a dormitory-turned-morgue steps from his room. The nights are getting colder, and his food has run out. The last message from his father is to get away from the city and to meet at his grandparents' town in remote New Hampshire. Knowing the impending New England winter could be the final nail in his coffin, Greg packs what little food he can find and sets off on his 100-mile walk north with the unwavering belief that his family is alive and will join him.
As the fast-moving and deadly disease strips away family and friends, Greg's father, John, is trapped in South Carolina. Roadblocks, a panic-stricken population, and winter make it impossible for him to get to his son. John and his three brothers appear to be immune, but they are scattered across a locked-down United States, forced to wait for the end of humanity before travelling to the mountains of New Hampshire.
Spring arrives, and the Dixons make their way north to find young Greg. They meet others along the way, slowly forming the last tribe of humanity from the few people still alive in the Northeast.

A calm storm
The story is a nice mellow survival story.
If you’re looking for wholesome characters, people making the best of bad situations whilst still being in an post apocalyptic world.
This is your read.
If you’re looking for something to keep you on your toes I suggest another book.
Scott Bricks voice is gorgeous along side this story. His strong calm voice accompanied the rhythm of the story perfectly.
Do be aware- this is a calm book. A break from post apocalyptic novels where everyone dies and there is something bad around every corner.

Excellent
Differs from the normal apocalyptic books because it doesn't have gore or rape. It has a realistic survival story

A “nice” pandemic...
... or more correctly a nice post-pandemic story.
I was dubious that this story would keep me engaged. I was pleasantly surprised.
I’ve read a lot of post-apocalyptic stories and they consistently tend to depict a harsh and violent time with bands of trigger happy thugs, who eventually get their comeuppance, but generally dominate the tale.
The Last Tribe is different. Whilst the widespread death and dead are referred to and there are a couple of unsavoury characters, they are the minority. This is an uplifting story of family, perseverance and generally sensible, nice people.
Don’t get me wrong, I like both versions of writers take on the post-world, I’ve just not read a lot like this one.

Refreshing change
Most apocalyptic stories i have read or listened to always go on the theme of doom and gloom.
It was great to hear a different take, a tribe making the best of it and not only surviving but thriving. A big far fetched i guess in parts but i loved some of the characters and enjoyed it.
Each to there own :)

Unexpectedly loved it!
I downloaded this based on the reviews and the general premise. To begin with I was a little disappointed (a small part of me was hoping for zombies), but slowly the character development and motion of the story made me want to keep listening!
I absolutely love all the detail that Brad Manuel put into the story and how much time he gave to his characters, ensuring the reader (or listener in this case) had an understanding of each character - no small feat considering the number of survivors by the end of the book. Loved it and would recommend it!

Brilliant!
Not your normal apocalyptic disaster book. No post apoc zombies, vampires, waring, murder or mayhem. Just normal people trying to survive the end of civilization with maybe an unrealistic ending, but hey, you never know who you pick up on the way.
Highly recommend this book. Wish there was a sequel.
Time to hone my non existent fishing and hunting skills
