But when Castorp arrives he is surprised to find an established community of patients, and little by little, he gets drawn into the closeted life and the individual personalities of the residents.

Fabulous narration.
Wonderful caricature of British upper class bureaucrats. Depressing story line centred on the blind attraction to the Soviet communism. Very Cold War literature.

Excellent
Excellent story, where the descriptions, characterisation and relationship developments do not weigh down the narrative movement.

Book good, narration outstanding
A good book but not Greene’s strongest. Tim Pigott-Smith is brilliant as usual and gives the story more appeal than it might have had. So, worth listening to.

One of his best
A hidden gem, hiding. One of Greene‘a best. Extremely well written and narrated. As good as The Quiet American.

A richly described work.
I listened in one day. Graham Green crafts words into pictures in one's mind.
