Publisher's Summary
#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Preston is back with another pulse-pounding, twisty read!
Haunted by the past . . . terrified of the present.
Penny knows she must forget about her ex, Nash. Ever since his father was revealed as the brutal serial killer who traumatized their small town last Halloween, Penny’s parents have forbidden her to have anything to do with Nash or his family. It’s hard not to think of him—but she’s trying.
That stops when she goes shopping with friends for a costume. What she finds instead is ripped from a horror movie: someone from school bleeding out on the floor of a dressing room. Stabbed.
People are quick to blame Nash and his sister, Grace, but as Halloween nears and the body count rises, Penny can’t help thinking this copycat killer is someone no one else suspects. . . .

Every Horror Trope Imaginable
After reading “The Dare” I was excited to read another story by Natasha Preston,
But
I gotta say this book was disappointing.
Heavily influenced by the “ Scream” movies,
It tell the story of Penny the girl in love with Nash.
Just so happens that Nash’s old man, was the towns serial killer, and is now in jail.
Now, just like in “Scream “ it all happening again.
And,
The focus for these new killers is on the Whitmore siblings.
Nash, and his sister Grace,,
Since the crime spree, they have been spending their time, Daddy’s incarceration, living on the family’s isolated farm, away from the townsfolk, their pitchfork brigade s , and their awful insinuations.
So.
Who IS behind these new killings.
As Penny does her best Neve Campbell/ Nancy Drew impression, her friends are dropping like flies around her.
So, as you can imagine, with all the murders, it’s with great trepidation that she rekindles her romance with Nash.
But as the body count grows, and the FBI are now in hot pursuit,.
But they don’t know this town like Penny and Nash do.
Will they both be able to solve this crime before anymore friends die???
Gotta say:
Penny has got to be the one most annoying female leads ever.
If it wasn’t for her constant need to be around Nash and her disregard for her own safe time, and time again, she could have avoided a LOT of drama.
You have don’t know how many times I wished she would just die already.
( yeah she was that annoying)
By the end, we got all the typical Scream/ horror movie tropes you can think of thrown at us, with the predictable ( so predictable ) ending.
The ending…..
Yes.
What. A. Cop. Out!!!
The epitome of lazy writing.
