Story
Willy and Marianne’s farmhouse in Maine has acres of meadow and fresh air, and a lonesome bridle path in the forest along which Willy daydreams and ambles. When he’s loaned a decrepit old baby stroller to cart his groceries home, the rickety squeak of the wheels comforts him. So do the sweet coos of a baby Willy knows can’t be real. Can it? In this twisted thicket, wishes come true—with a price.

Story
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Story
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

Interesting idea but way too long
This would be an riveting read if it was half as long.
The premise is interesting, and it has a strong start and wraps up well.
There's a very long section of events in the middle that just drags on and on though. The female lead character is a tad annoying and this gets more grating as the book goes on.
It’s quite similar to Stephen King’s writing. Overall it’s a decent post-apocalyptic story.

Nowhere near as dark as his father
Not a bad story but lacked some extra layer that King has, which I'm used to reading.
A little bit too... light. Not bad, but just didn't pull me in and give me the sense of dread and discomfort I crave.

Brilliant
I finished this book in a bit less than a week. I couldn't stop listening and spent many late nights in bed immersed in Joe Hills world. The Fireman captivated my imagination and ripped my heart out more than once. I think I'll have to wait a few years until I'm able to read it again, mainly because the ending broke my heart.
Another absolutely breathtaking book by Mr Hill, it's been a while since I was touched this way by a book.

Good performance by narrator, mediocore storyline
The narrator performed this story very well, aside from a slightly wandering English accent for one of the protagonists. The story line left a fair bit to be desired, reasonably predictable narrative, characters lacking depth. Antagonists were illogically evil, their motivations and reactions didn't make sense or were taken far past the point of belief. Not bad but not good, and pretty disappointing given the hype around the book.

not bad.
I'm beginning to love the dystopian genre.
I had a listen to Justin Cronin's epic 'The Passage' trilogy, and was expecting something similar. The Fireman was good, but not as good.

Fantastic!
Joe Hill has done it again! What a fantastic story, it was suspenseful but had just the right amounts of humour, sadness, triumph and joy. Kate Mulgrew was an awesome narrator as always. If you haven't yet had the pleasure of Joe Hill then give this one a go, highly recommended.

Thankyou again Joe Hill and Kate Mulgrew for this wonderful accompaniment to my 6h drives to family for Christmas and days crocheting gift blankets. I laughed, I cried, i loved your dark tower and NOS4R2 Easter eggs.
