Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village #49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. It’s a priceless source of power for the Baron and the tyrant will kill to get it back. Invaluable, too, to a young man of spellcasting ambitions.

Stupid Cliffhanger, Too Much Sex.
The story slowly degrades in quality as our powerful protagonist tries to sleep with everything female and has Vietnam flashbacks every couple of pages. Honestly, the story wasn't that bad. It would have just been preferable if the author didn't pad the book with so much crap to try force a terrible cliffhanger. The character's unfortunately weren't that memorable either.
Personally, I'd try something else. The quality never exceeds the first few chapters, so give them a listen and return it if you're not hooked in the first hour or so (best part of the book).

Ok story; bad performance
Performer didn’t provide differing voices at all which made it confusing as to who was speaking and made the dialogue unbearable. Likewise the way the reader spoke had weird things emphasised which just made it all the worse... the story itself is also rather basic but still good.

basically erotica
The book's storyline by itself is decent, yet it comes together as a far greater whole over the series. The memory loss/gaps is a interesting writing concept, yet it's often overly frustrating and arbitrarily stretches out many plotlines.
The many reviews about the erotic content are if anything understated. The author can barely go a chapter without devolving into full-fledged, descriptive, graphic erotica.
The issue with it is that the Author can't seem to decide if it's erotica or not. He'll regularly interrupt the storyline and go on a graphic, erotic tangent for little-no reason to the actual story. I was regularly left questioning what these sections added to the novel.
As far as the narration goes, the performance is more than adequate. Yet the choice of narrator is very questionable for such a gritty world and character. Further, the rest of the books in the series have a second narrator for female chapters. It's a jarring change after the first book and the narrators aren't a good match for each other AND they're poorly volume equalised.

Good Story, Poor Narration
First off, I enjoyed this book. Having said that there were major detractors from the overall quality that should be mentioned.
The most glaring issue is the narrator. His performance was adequate, but underwhelming. Almost no inflection to give character to the story or give emphasis and he doesn't even attempt to give the characters an individual voice. You can never tell who is speaking by the tone of his voice.
Another major issue was that 1/3 of the book is written from the perspective of a scared and underwhelming side character. It may have been an attempt to make the reader more attached to him but if so it failed miserably.
There are other issues but nothing as glaring as those.
Despite these issues, the storyline was gripping, most of the characters were relatable and interesting and best of all, the writing was descriptive and well done.
I think I would have enjoyed this much more in written format, but am still satisfied with my purchase.

Knows how to pull those heart strings.
Gosh darn that ended strong. Leaves you needing more. Although a bit of a dry start but dam it ends strong after building you up with that sweet charater progression.

Adult fantasy
The narrative is fine, just a lot of very detailed sex scenes which supprised me. Nothing wrong with it, but I wasn't expecting to be aroused while listening to the adventure...
