Dachau, 1942. Emilie has been told she's here to nurse evil men. But the first patient she sees in the cold, dark room is hauntingly familiar. Her first love is not wicked. He couldn't be. What is he doing here? Emilie's heart stops as she takes in her childhood sweetheart hunched in a tattered prisoners uniform, the light lost from his face. Her new husband, Otto, said this was a camp for criminals. He should know, he's the doctor. But Danner would never have broken the law.

Publisher's Summary
Throughout the 1940s, forgers helped thousands of children escape Nazi France. In this instant New York Times bestseller, Kristin Harmel reimagines their story...
Perfect for fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, The Librarian of Auschwitz and The Book Thief.
In 1942, Eva is forced to flee Paris after the arrest of her father, a Polish Jew. Finding refuge in a small mountain town, she begins forging identity documents for Jewish children escaping to neutral Switzerland. But erasing people comes with a price, and along with a mysterious, handsome forger named Rémy, Eva realises she must find a way to preserve the real names of the children who are too young to remember their own identities.
When Rémy disappears and the resistance cell they work for is betrayed, the records they keep in The Book of Lost Names become even more crucial to remembering the truth...
A present day discovery of the book leaves researchers fascinated by its origins and desperate to decipher its codes. Only Eva holds the answer but will she have the strength to face old memories and help reunite those lost during the war?
If you loved The Book of Lost Names, don't miss Kristin Harmel's The Winemaker's Wife, available now.

A great story but poor audio narrator in some parts
A great story and I finished it so quick. I cannot help myself but noticed that some of the narrative audios are very robotic and sounds like AI creative audio. That’s the only down point of the book and such a shame.

I really enjoyed this story. It had me crying with happiness and shouting in disbelief. Though the story is fiction the lives and troubles of the characters feels so real.

Love listening to this book.
I thought I’d start this book before going to bed and before I know it I was 3hrs into it. I couldn’t wait to finish it today while gardening. So beautifully written and amazing to here story’s of yet more very brave and amazing people (I know it fictional history) in the background doing things I couldn’t even imagine I’d have the strength to do to save families and their country.
