About this listen
For fans of Emily Henry and Abby Jimenez, The Anatomy of Us is the debut novel by Sunday Times bestseller and renowned midwife Leah Hazard, performed by Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley.
It’s New Year’s Eve in Edinburgh’s biggest hospital, and Dr. Becca Armitage is struggling. After a devastating shift in the emergency room leaves her questioning everything, she signs herself off work and spirals into depression. Enter Dr. Andrew Maitland – charming, wealthy and, according to Becca, the Most Beautiful Man in the World. As they begin an unexpected romance, Becca finds herself lying to maintain the image of the put-together doctor Andrew thinks she is. But Andrew has secrets of his own. As their relationship deepens, past wounds and current truths threaten to derail their budding connection. Can two imperfect people find a way to be honest with each other, and themselves?
The Anatomy of Us is a moving story about medicine, self-acceptance, and the messy reality of falling in love. By turns hilarious and heart-breaking, it is an intimate exploration of what it means to be human in all our glorious imperfections.

I smiled and cried rare tears
I thought this might be too close to the bone being a burnt out health professional with depression but I loved how unusually real it was; the characters, the dialogue, the cold, the black dog, the tenderness, the selfies, the mistakes, the hope and the untied strings. The very best sort of “Romcom”. Jessie Buckley’s narration was amazing with the different genders and accents sounding so natural. I was expecting Becca to be Scottish so was confused by Irish accent initially. Andrew really sounds posh, old money, and the most beautiful man in the world. Encore!!!

Funny, moving, down to earth
Best book I’ve listened to for a long time. The writing is SO GOOD you feel you are right there with the characters. And it’s intelligent. The plot and the characters ring true and are so brilliantly drawn, they are completely believable and relatable. The narration is spot on - Jessie Buckley gives an amazing performance and an absolute showcase of her range of perfect Scottish, Irish and (multiple) British accents. Thoroughly recommend.

Short but sweet
Super cute. Very real. Mental health aspects and relationship baggage was relatable. I just was wishing it was longer.

Absolutely loved this
The only thing wrong with it was I wanted more. It was so beautiful. A little Bridget jones to begin with and if your want super spice then this is not your book. But omg every woman wants a man like Andrew, and the way she’s written about depression is so accurate, you will laugh a little cry a little and laugh with tears of happiness in your eyes.

Cute story
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I like the woman’s voice (she’s from Bad Sisters) cute story. Sheds some light on mental health and depression. The struggle is real. Give it a listen!

A bit mad, funny, and sad. I didn’t want to stop listening. The things we do to make others believe we are okay.

Enjoyable and flowed well
I really enjoyed this, and found it really easy to digest. Becca's depression is hard to listen to at times, but that is depression isn't it? It is heavy, and you have to sit with those feelings and process them, even when it's uncomfortable. I think it's important to have the topic represented in text, and I think this was done very well.
Overall the story was well written and enjoyable and I found the characters to be likable and interesting, except Becca's boss, she was horrible and I would have liked to have seen her be put in her place.
Like others have said, I didn't want it to end where it did and would have loved to have followed their story further. Shout out to Jessie Buckley as well - I thought her narration was fantastic and loved how she could go between accents so easily. She was really engaging and warm.
