Publisher's Summary

"Suspenseful, exciting, atmospheric rural crime; a riveting debut." (Michaela Lobb, Sisters in Crime Australia)

What will they risk for answers?

Picturesque Daylesford has a darker side. Melbourne writer Georgie Harvey heads to the mineral springs region in central Victoria to look for a missing farmer, and soon links the woman’s disappearance with the unsolved mystery surrounding her husband.

Meanwhile, maverick police officer and solo dad John Franklin is working a case that’s a step up from Daylesford’s usual soft crime: A stalker targeting single mothers.

Georgie’s investigation stirs up long-buried secrets, and attracts enemies. When she reports the missing person to local cops, sparks fly between her and Franklin.

Has he dismissed the writer too quickly? And what will the truth cost?

"Worthy debut." (Herald-Sun)

"The police aspect of this novel has depth and believability...this debut is a cracker." (J.M. Peace, serving QLD police officer and author of award-winning A Time to Run)

Irritating narration

I’m sure the story might be a good one but for me the narration was droll and extremely irritating that when diverting to another part of the story, which I assume was a new paragraph, there was no pause at all. I got to Chapter 12 and couldn’t do it anymore. A shame, because I foolishly bought 3 books in the series. Listening to the sample narration did not elicit what became so frustrating to me.

Great start to series.

Highly enjoyable. Excellent reading, great characters. The dynamic between the two main protagonists is set up well for the future books in the series. Daylesford and Melbourne come alive. Nice interplay with cops at work. Steamy in parts. Highly recommended.

OK

This story is told from two POVs and the storyline quickly flips between the two and so I found it difficult to follow the storyline at the beginning. Also neither main character was very smart and both did some really stupid actions but overall it was an ok read.

Great story. Not so great narrator.

Am really enjoying this series of books but do find the narrator annoying. She speaks too quickly and it is very confusing when she does not pause between chapters. With the multiple stories being told it is confusing when she launches into a different story with no pause to signal a change. I found it better by slowing the speed, but that did not alleviate the problem with no pauses between stories.

Not for listening

Bought the audible. Narration was horrible - personal opinion only. Couldn't get into the story, narration just ruined it for me. May be it is one for reading.
