Story
Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Tudor Grove, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn't a mother she recognises. She isn't the nanny. She doesn't have Milo. And so begins every parent's worst nightmare. As news of the disappearance filters through the quiet Dublin suburb and an unexpected suspect is named, whispers start to spread about the women most closely connected to the shocking event. Because only one of them may have taken Milo - but they could all be blamed.

Story
It is the winter of 1985. Hope Farm sticks out of the ragged landscape like a decaying tooth, its weatherboard walls sagging into the undergrowth. Silver's mother, Ishtar, has fallen for the charismatic Miller, and the three of them have moved to the rural hippie commune to make a new start. But here, at just 13, she is thrust into an unrelenting adult world, and the walls begin to come tumbling down, with deadly consequences.

Story
Calabria, Italy, 1936. In a remote farming village nestled in the mountains that descend into the sparkling Ionian Sea, young and spirited Giulia Tallariti longs for something more. While she loves her home and her lively family, she would much rather follow in her nonna’s footsteps and pursue her dream of becoming a healer. But as Mussolini’s focus shifts to the war in Europe, civil unrest looms. Whispers of war are at every corner and her beloved village, once safe from the fascist agenda of the North, is now in very real danger.

Story
The Cows is a powerful novel about three women. In all the noise of modern life, each needs to find her own voice. It's about friendship and being female. It's bold and brilliant. It's searingly perceptive. It's about never following the herd. And everyone is going to be talking about it.

Publisher's Summary
A missing woman. A husband suspected.
The truth will … Take Your Breath Away
It’s always the husband, isn’t it?
When his wife Brie vanishes from their home one night, never to be seen again, people assume Andy got away with murder. The police can’t build a case against him, but still his friends and neighbours abandon him.
Six years later, Andy’s life is back on track, and he’s settled with a new girlfriend. And when he hears his old house has been bulldozed and rebuilt, he’s not bothered. Things are good.
But then one day, a woman who looks like Brie shows up at their old address, screaming ‘Where’s my house? What happened to my house?’ before vanishing as quickly as she appeared.
And as dark suspicions resurface, Andy’s future depends on discovering what the hell is going on. The trick is staying alive long enough to find out…

Entertaining
Didn’t pick the end, keeps you guessing. A second twist at the end was a bit unnecessary though and left me with a bad taste for the main characters. The female reader sounded like a robot and detracted from enjoying the story. Ok story but not great.

I really struggled listening to a narrator.
A few times I gave up listening and thought I'd start another book. I struggled listening to one of the narrators it sounded like she was struggling too. I got there in the end, I wish I'd bought the book and read it myself.

Twists & turns
I love a story that draws you in, makes you believe you know what happened then twists the story again.
I found the female narrator’s voice irritating but that’s personal to me.
All in all a great listen

Well worth a read
I truly enjoyed this book, the story was great but the narration was awful. If you speed them up to 1.1x or better 1.2x it is better.

Amateur hour
This book is best listened to at 1.3 x normal speed. The quicker you get to the end, the better. Always sad when the book relies on information not known to the reader. Appallingly read.

interesting enough story, awful narration
the story has a number of unlikely scenarios to make it work, but the ending was unexpected enough that I felt the required surprise. however the narrator was so flat and measured in speech (with no real emotion) that it really took away from my enjoyment of the story.
