Story
Berkeley, California, 1933. In a lab filled with curiosities - beakers, microscopes, Bunsen burners, and hundreds upon hundreds of books - sat an investigator who would go on to crack at least 2,000 cases in his 40-year career. Known as the "American Sherlock Holmes", Edward Oscar Heinrich was one of America's greatest - and first - forensic scientists, with an uncanny knack for finding clues, establishing evidence, and deducing answers with a skill that seemed almost supernatural.

I love these two women. It’s like they have become my friends! The book nods to the podcast structure, but gives us a deeper look at who these two women are. I feel so proud of them!

Perfect!
I went into this book knowing I would like it as I absolutely love the podcast and thoroughly enjoy when Georgia and Karen share anecdotally. This was even better than I expected. In fact, I loved it so much that I bought it in audiobook form and on paperback! They both did a wonderful job writing their own stories in an engaging and interesting way, incorporating comedy and their intrigue of murder seamlessly. If anyone hasn't read this yet you absolutely should, even if you haven't listened to the podcast (although I think you should do that too!). You will definitely not be disappointed by either authors writing or narration and the live readings throughout the book are a lovely and unexpected surprise that makes the audiobook even better!

Funny, sad and thoroughly engaging
I'm only relatively new to the 'My favorite murder' podcast and haven't listened all the way yet, but I do really enjoy the camaraderie between Karen and Georgia, and this was no exception. This is a really enjoyable joint memoir about growing up as a woman, finding your way in the world, learning to say 'no' and 'fuck politeness'. It is funny and sad and thoroughly engaging. I really enjoyed this.

Good with some jarring audio
Great book but there are some sections recorded during live shows which are jarring because the audio sounds so different.

A touching long podcast episode
This audiobook seemed like a long version of one of their podcast episodes, in which Karen and Georgia get deep and personal about their lives. It was great to listen about their childhoods and lives before the podcast, and basically what makes them tick.
Some parts of the audiobook were recorded during their live podcast episodes, which meant that in some chapters, the audio recording would suddenly change from being recorded in a studio, to being recorded in a live audience. This aspect cheapened the audiobook, as I found the screaming audience to be distracting and annoying. It also meant the audiobook didn't flow as nicely, as the volume or tone would change from calm and nice to loud and jarring. An audiobook should be recorded in the same setting. The decision to include the live recordings is equivalent to your favourite album having some songs replaced with a live version instead of the studio version!! Not everyone wants or appreciates that.
I really loved Georgia's storytelling - I found her to be the most relatable and open. Karen seemed a little closed off compared to Georgia. I prefer listening to Karen during the podcast episodes, but in the audiobook I much preferred listening to Georgia, I felt like she had a knack for connecting with the listener.
Overall it's a good audiobook, and despite the annoying and jarring live snippets, I would recommend this book.
