Publisher's Summary
Even the darkest secrets can't stay buried forever.
Five figures gather 'round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult-sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken, but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood.
Years later a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders that shock the Black Country.
But when human remains are discovered at a former children's home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. DI Kim Stone fast realizes she's on the hunt for a twisted individual whose killing spree spans decades.
As the body count rises, Kim needs to stop the murderer before they strike again. But to catch the killer, can Kim confront the demons of her own past before it's too late?
Fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid ,and Mark Billingham will be gripped by this exceptional new voice in British crime fiction.
A detective hiding dark secrets, Kim Stone will stop at nothing to protect the innocent. Silent Scream is the first book in the series. Watch out for Evil Games, coming soon.

A brutal story
Overall not a bad story, very grim. The narrator’s sing song voice at times drove me mad and I swiped to the of those chapters. Narrator also could have recognised a full stop.

***Silent Scream***
Wow I didn't expect the twist in the end, it's heart breaking and haunting.
Detective Kim Stone is relentless in her search for the truth, she is tough as nails and doesn't give a shit which toes she steps on to get to the truth. A chilling story of murder, neglect and abused from the people who supposed to be caring for those unfortunate victims. I love Jan Cramer she is incredible and puts a lot of effort in her narratives.

I've become hooked
I am loving this series. I would recommend listening to book 0.5 first as it gives a great background to each character. This book tears at your heart but there are some hilarious one-liners that made me laugh. I love a good, strong female lead and one who very rarely sticks to the conventional rules.

Story fair but ending too complex
Though the narrator was eloquent, I found her monotonous lack of inflection had me zoning out. Particularly when in the voice of the main perpetrator. On a few occasions I had to skip back and listen again as my mind had just drifted off due to the blah blah blah approach.
The story itself is ok and fairly well paced. Decent characters and an evolving plot. Personally though I was disappointed with the ending as even though all the dots were eventually joined up I felt there was just too much complexity (in my opinion) to make it all believable. As the Sam narrator performs the others in the series I am unlikely to listen to more.
