Publisher's Summary
Lord Copper, newspaper magnate and proprietor of the Daily Beast, has always prided himself on his intuitive flair for spotting ace reporters. That is not to say he has not made the odd blunder, however, and may in a moment of weakness make another.
Acting on a dinner party tip from Mrs. Algernon Stitch, Lord Copper feels convinced that he has hit on just the chap to cover a promising war in the African Republic of Ishmaelia.
So begins Scoop, Waugh's exuberant comedy of mistaken identity and brilliantly irreverent satire of the hectic pursuit of hot news. Evelyn Waugh's tale of an innocent abroad is a hilarious satire on journalism set amidst the powerful currents of the 1930s and contains a memorable collection of comic creations.

Classic book beautifully read
Simon Cadell is excellent for this humorous masterpiece. Changing voices to give each character the perfect tone. A tremendous audio book.

Voles triumphant!
The wit, the observation, the storytelling, the plethora of unforgettable (and recognised) characters – one could ask for little more in a novel that keeps one chuckling all the way through. It is Waugh at his very best. And the performance by Simon Cadell is wonderful - with great subtlety, he catches, in his various voices, the essence of each character, and makes every minute of our listening to his reading a pure delight.

Excellent
I have read this novel before and is one of my favourites. This is a great adaptation. The narrator speaks exactly as one imagines the characters. Top marks.

Ironic but true
Having just finished reading "The First Casualty" by Phillip Knightly, I found this representation of journalism to be quite accurate and amusing.
