Publisher's Summary
A Broadway actress has a chance at stardom when cast by a major Hollywood director, but the role of her dreams may cost her the love of a lifetime in this epic novel from "one of the finest romance writers of our age." (Entertainment Weekly)
For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings, preparing for my time to shine. I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night.
Canon Holt. Famous film director. Fascinating. Talented. Fine.
Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to center stage Hollywood. From being unknown, to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone's lips when Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic.
But stars shine brightest in the dead of night. Forbidden attraction, scandal and circumstances beyond my control jeopardize my dream. Could this one shot—the role of a lifetime, the love of a lifetime—cost me everything?

Simmered and fevered love.
Gosh, I loved these two. The anticipation, the subtle romance, the talent, the history, the burn of love and determination to live and the test of love when the going gets rough.
Canon is so lovable, well put together, decated, you want to know him, more of him, have his talent trickle down and quench this curiosity you have all through the story.
Neevah, is so beautiful. From her quirky self when she gets that casting call, to how dedicated she is to her work, to her thrist to prove herself that she can blow that role out of the water, her strength as she fights an illness ravaging her body, her persuing of love that is forbidden. I loved the flow of this. The dive into history to bring forth the stars who have gone forgotten and giving life to Harlem in that time. Feeling the emotion, the fever, the love, the pressure, the division of blacks ans whites.
It's a lovely story and I loved it all. Although on the downlow, I felt like, wailing knowing Canon had yet another chronic loved one, but he takes it on with grace and energy and I loved him more for it.
Jakobi brought it as usual, that Canon just drips, as were the performance and Eboni killing Neevah's character.

Wow! 5🌟
Reel was a captivating and nostalgic love story with a great historical side story. Neevah & Cannon's romance was beautiful, I enoyed every minute of it.
The narration and music for this audiobook was absolutely incredible the one of the best performances I've listened to in 2021.
