Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He’s also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Publisher's Summary
Book two in Raymond E. Feist’s best-selling Firemane Saga!
Hatushaly and his young wife, Hava, are living a good life, working to reopen the burned-out Inn of the Three Stars in the prosperous trading town of Beran's Hill.
But there is a great deal more to this bucolic scene than meets the eye. Both Hatu and Hava were raised on the secret island of Coaltachin, and though they may appear to be no more than a young couple in love preparing for the midsummer festival where their friends Declan and Gwen will be wed, they are in fact assassins on a mission, waiting instructions from their masters in the Kingdom of Night.
Moreover, Hatu is the last remaining member of the ruling family of Ithrace - the legendary Firemanes. He dyes his flaming red hair and has studied to control his dangerous magical powers. But however hard Hatu may be hiding from all those who would seek to use or to destroy him, fate has other plans.
Horrific events are approaching Beran's Hill, bringing death and devastation to the peaceful town as unknown and monstrous forces are unleashed. And nothing will ever be the same again.

Readers voice is biggest let down
Some characters have voices so course it's actually hard to listen to the book. King of Sanjura for example. 😬

Phenomenal
Fantastic second installment. It had been a long moment for me between first book in this series and this release so I was a bit slow to connect the dots at the beginning but I was truly hooked as the characters and settings came back to me. Some plots points I could anticipate but others I truly didn't see coming. Also a willingness to kill off characters as needed, and bring others back. The book has a predictable structure for laying the the road towards future books that will be familiar to readers of Feist's Magician books.
One of the major differences I have seen in this series VS the Magician series are well fleshed out female characters who are not damsels in distress. It is a gratifying to have characters who are well rounded and capable with interesting personalities and backgrounds. I have often felt that lacking in Feist's previous work (Servant of the Empire trilogy as the marked exception with Jany Wurts' influence). While some characters are still of the damsel trope, it is framed with the context of the story and is less glaring.
Some of the voices were particularly grating but I suppose that was the intended effect as the characters weren't supposed to be likeable. Otherwise, the reading performance was great.

Another Golden Tale
Thrust into another Raymond E. Feists' adventure, I find the warmth and clarity of story and character fill with each chapter. The narrative is clear and concise; Our Narrator Thorpe is enthusiastic and talented. On its own the new series is growing and in the years to come, we'll see it bloom into another Epic. It's worth every word, Feist you good thing you.

A slow burn, but a good one.
It was captivating but the story was slow and drawn out, each situation was so detailed. overall, it was enjoyable and the characters have a lot of depth and they've grown throughout their struggles but yeah it took it's time getting any place momentous.
