Publisher's Summary
Cash Fraser is planning revenge, and to get it he needs the perfect woman. So he hires her. Abigail Butler has lost nearly everything in her life and she's about to lose the home she loves.
Cash meets Abby, who is posing as a paid escort, and the minute he does he knows he's willing to pay for more than Abby being his pretend girlfriend. A lot more. Abby needs the money or the last thing that links her to her dead family and husband will be gone. The deal is struck, but both Cash and Abby get more than they bargained for.
Cash realizes very quickly that Abby isn't what she seems, and while he changes strategies, Abby discovers that Cash's legacy, Penmort Castle, is like all the tales say - very, very haunted. Making matters worse, the ghost in residence wants her dead.
Abby's found herself in the battle of her life, so she enlists Mrs. Truman, her nosy neighbor; Jenny, her no-nonsense friend; Cassandra McNabb, white witch and clairvoyant with a penchant for wearing scarves (and lots of them); and Angus McPherson, dyed-in-the-wool Scot (which means he hunts ghosts in a kilt) to fight the vicious ghost who has vowed that she will rest at nothing to kill the true, abiding love of the master of Penmort.

Spoiled by the accents
This is my second time listening to this book, hoping it was better than I remembered. Another great Kristen Ashley story but, unfortunately, spoiled for me by the terrible ‘Scottish’ and ‘Australian’ accents. Cash Fraser is one of my favourite leading men but looses all credibility with an unnatural Scottish brogue. Being Scottish and living in Australia for 40 years, I have to say that both accents were annoyingly inauthentic.
The narrator has a lovely, natural speaking voice for the leading lady but the book would have been better without any accents at all. Sorry - but read the book instead.

Great tale
Great tale but, terrible Australian & Scottish accents. Absolutely butchered the Aussie accent, the Scottish accent was slightly better but still pretty awful. I think it would be better just to use your native accent than produce something so incredibly awful. If you can get passed the accents, the narrator reads the very entertaining and enjoyable storyline well.

Great Story. Narration ok
Story was typical Kristen Ashley, I enjoyed it start to finish. Narration for the most part was good, however the "Scottish Brogue" fell flat, and in some parts detracted from the story. Not enough to stop me listening to the rest of the series though.

Kristen Ashley is brilliant
Another well written and well narrated story. Even the accents worked well. The story and expression in the voices plus descriptions of rooms and clothes made me believe I was there observing the action. Another happy ending.

Terrible "Australian" accent
Struggled to get through this! I don't recommend this. Author has other far better books that will be worth your time.

Too much against it
I’m a Kristen ashley fan, and although I was extremely disappointed for the first month of trying to get through this - perhaps 2/3 of the book, she brought it home at the end. Seemingly in contrast to most other reviewers, I thought the ghost part was the best part of the book, as there was very little that was appealing about the couple and their relationship(?) otherwise.
I have to say the performance played a big part in me not enjoying this. The accents were awful and very distracting, the general speech of everyone (except the heroine) were unnaturally staccato and as equally distracting, and I think the actress was far too dramatic in every moment, which left nothing for the truly dramatic moments. I found the combination of the voice actress and the characters made me struggle to get through this. I genuinely hate giving bad reviews, but I honestly can’t go past a 2 here.
