Story
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Deni Francis, most annoying voice
Deni Francis sounds congested narrating the book with a blocked nose. I couldn't handle it so had to buy the book to finish it - my ebook club agreed.

VERY long book!
A great plot. Quite a few twists and turns along the way. Good narration but sometimes the story felt too wordy. VERY long book, good for a long road trip though. My husband listened from two thirds through and I managed to summarise the gist of the story so far in less than ten minutes.

Thoroughly absorbing from beginning to end.
I love a mystery thriller with plot twists, but I often manage to spot them coming. Not so with this fantastic story! So well written and the audiobook is really brilliantly narrated.
Gotta go! Need to download the next book from my new favourite writer!

Implausible and laborious story
I am up to chapter 27 and seriously thinking about returning this book and aborting altogether.
The story is not plausible and in addition it is too long and drawn out, the dialogues seem to go on and on.
Good gripping start but unfortunately doesn’t keep me interested

Explosive ending was not worth the wait
I struggled through this audiobook. Found the characters tedious and uninteresting and the unlikely climax a stretch in terms of believability . The twist at the end was incredibly dark and out of sync in tone with the rest of the novel.
