Publisher's Summary

The shooting of a Chinese liquor store owner in LA brings Harry Bosch back to the Rodney King riots and the moment a stranger gave a young cop sanctuary. Now the debt must be repaid, and Harry soon discovers the old man's death was no ordinary holdup.

Homing in on clues disregarded by the cops on the scene, Harry builds a picture of corruption and intimidation, with the local Triads at the heart of it. But as he tries to build a case and breach the impenetrable wall of silence in the local community, he finds he is taking a dragon by the tail - a dragon whose talons reach well beyond LA, and even the States.

Suddenly, the most precious thing in Harry's life is under threat, and he will need to leave the familiarity of his home turf, alone and without backup, if he is going to stop his worst nightmare from happening.

Good Listen

Good storyline with some twists. Narrator wasn't the best which made me struggle to pay attention.

Typical Connelly

Bosch as usual on top of his game.
One big surprise, who will be lost forever?

Wow

After the last book we got which was a bit short we’re given this amazing adventure. Bosch takes his exploits to Hong Kong. I wasn’t sure how this would play out but it played out well and I enjoyed it.

It was hard to put down.

Not the best Bosch

I don't really give a rats about Bosch's family, so this was just okay. Len Cariou is great again, although the female characters whinge too much and that is very hard to listen too. Overall, not a bad edition to the Bosch series but far from the best. Is Connelly running out of ideas for this character? Can he do what Lee Childs sometimes does with Jack Reacher ... go back in time, and do stories on a young Bosch?

weakest Bosch so far

Skip this one unless you're a completionist or a masochist. Tedious story, poorly written. None of the main characters are likeable or relatable, not one! It's just a load of self indulgent self flagellation. Also, the portrayal of women is getting worse, the mansplaining is unnecessary. And a "fridging"? FFS, Yawn.

Recording has parts missing and interrupted

Recording has parts missing and is interrupted right when the story gets interesting.
Drops in and out.

A bit oƒ a strech

Too long and quite irrelevant to the series, I read it as a part of the saga, but could have skipped it, the narrator especially with the female characters is ghastly and quite annoying.
